DOREEN PATTESON

Doreen H. Patteson (nee McKay), born on July 10, 1933, went to be with her Lord and Saviour on Wednesday, December 11, 2024. Hailing from the farming community of Alexander, Manitoba, Doreen demonstrated a faith, hardy pluck, and wisdom that defined and sustained her all of her life.

Doreen married her most ardent admirer, Thomas Patteson of Winnipeg, Manitoba, on May 25, 1958. Tom and Doreen forged a strong partnership deeply grounded in mutual love and enduring respect. Their children: Susan (Daryl) Harvie, Corinne (Kevin) Hannah, Jeff (Amanda) Patteson and Tim (Katie) Patteson, grew up knowing a fierce love that inspired confidence, creativity, laughter, and powerful sense of family. Nothing pleased Doreen more than to hear her family laugh and giggle together even if she was the fodder for teasing. Family events involved endless hours of Speed Scrabble and Doreen's signature Nuts and Bolts.

Ever health conscious, Doreen was ahead of her time regarding nutrition and exercise. Multiple daily walks kept Tom and Doreen active and healthy late into their 80s.

Doreen's faith was the cornerstone of her life. Her prayers surrounded her family and especially her grandchildren: Jordon (Alicia) Hannah, Emily (Chris) Sinclair, Jill (Ryan) Novak, Tim (Rachel) Harvie, Claire and Rebekah Patteson and great-grandchildren: Elliott and Myles Hannah, Theodore Novak, and Hazel and Olivia Harvie. Predeceased by her parents, two brothers, sister-in-law, and recently her biggest fan Tom, Doreen leaves to mourn her brother and sister-in-law: Wilfred and Karen McKay as well as many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the staff at Bethany Cochrane. Their expert and loving care inspired confidence and comfort during the last chapter of Doreen's life.

Doreen embodied grace, wisdom and strength. A life well lived and forever treasured.

Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • I'm deeply saddened to have just learned of Doreen's passing in December. My heart goes out to each of you during this difficult time. I had been hoping to reconnect with Doreen, and though that wasn't meant to be, I'm grateful for the impact she had on my life. As a beloved member of Trinity Baptist Church in Winnipeg, Doreen touched the lives of many, including mine. Her kindness and ministry to young moms like me left a lasting impression. Even after she moved to Cochran, her legacy of love and compassion continued to inspire. Please know that Doreen is deeply missed, and my thoughts and prayers are with you all as you celebrate her life and mourn her loss.
