DR. TEJ RAJ SINGH BHATIA
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, and grandfather at the age of 93, following a brief illness.
Tej is survived by his beloved wife Kuldip, daughter Sangeet, son Rajdeep (Marina) and grandchildren, Max, Liam, Christopher and Luke.
Tej was a dedicated, loving family man who enjoyed his sports. He was a big fan of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers and the Winnipeg Jets. In his university days, he was captain of his tennis team and especially enjoyed soccer, field hockey and cricket. In later years, playing badminton with friends was a weekly event.
Tej retired, after 35 years of Federal Government service, as the Director of Animal and Plant Health, Diagnostic Services Division in Ottawa. Prior to that, he was the Director of the Health of Animal Laboratory in Guelph, Ontario and earlier in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
Tej came to Canada in 1960 after obtaining his Veterinary degree at the Royal College in London, England and earlier at Agra University, India. Tej was devoted to his family, career and the community. He was a regular community volunteer, and his service was recognized by the Mayor of Winnipeg.
Travelling was a favourite of Tej. He travelled all through Europe as a young man. He continued his love of travel by taking his family on long drives through Canada and the United States in his 1972 Chrysler and on adventurous trips to India. Tej was also sponsored by the Canadian International Development Corporation and the Canadian Executive Service Organization as an international advisor.
Services will be held on Saturday, February 8, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. at Thomson “In the Park” Funeral Home and Cemetery followed by a reception at 1291 McGillivray Boulevard.

To Mrs. Bhatia. I heard of Tej's passing through his wide network of friends and colleagues across Canada, but only several days after the funeral service. As you will know, he and I were fellow Laboratory Directors in Canada's national animal and plant health network, so we were together several times each year for business meetings and the attendant social gatherings. In retirement, Tej and I kept in touch by phone for many years. I would usually ask him how his son and daughter were doing in their careers and he was always very proud to tell me. It can be said that his was "a life well lived". With my sincere condolences, Bill Yates Lethbridge, Alberta. - Posted by: Dr. Bill Yates (Colleague and friend) on: Feb 10, 2025
