It is with deep sorrow that we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved mother, Léonne Barnabé (née Desrosiers), at the age of 102, on January 29, 2025, at Chalet Malouin in St. Malo, Manitoba.
Léonne was predeceased by her devoted husband, André, and her parents, Emilien and Ernestine (Bourgeois) Desrosiers. She will be fondly remembered by her siblings: Celine Robertson, Jeanne Lipischak, Simone Gosselin, Bertille (Lucien) Croteau, (Edith) Desrosiers, Robert (Sharon) Desrosiers, and Guy (Claire) Desrosiers.
Léonne’s legacy lives on through her children: Roland Barnabé, Patricia Maxwell, Norbert (Gisele) Barnabé, Rachelle (Peter) Wiebe, Johanne (Rickey) Rivard, and Louise (Claude) Berard. She was also a proud grandmother of 15 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren, and six great-great-grandchildren. Additionally, she lovingly embraced nine foster children throughout her life.
Born in St. Malo, Manitoba, Léonne grew up in a large family of 17 children. Her love for music, singing, dancing, and playing the piano was a constant throughout her life.
Léonne married André Barnabé on October 5, 1943. Together, they moved to Arnaud, Manitoba, where they farmed and raised their six children. In 1960, they relocated to St. Pierre, Manitoba, to a 400-acre farm, where they grew grain and raised cattle. Over time, they transitioned to hog farming. As a devoted wife and mother, Léonne was always busy cooking meals, canning, baking, sewing, and caring for her family.
Mom loved receiving visitors and cherished time spent with family and friends, often playing cards and offering a table full of delicious home-baked goods, including her famous glazed donuts and sucre à crème. Her baking was a true joy to all who knew her.
In 1975/1976, Léonne and André sold the farm and built a new home closer to town. This move allowed her to become more involved in the St. Pierre community, where she entered baking contests at the horticultural exposition and volunteered at bake sales at the Manoir in St. Pierre.
After André’s passing in 1983, she continued to enjoy her hobbies, such as knitting, ceramics, paper tole, reading, playing the organ, and listening to music. Léonne moved to Chalet Malouin in St. Malo in 1991. Her love for flowers remained constant, and her beautiful flower beds were a testament to her nurturing spirit. Léonne also enjoyed curling season and cheering on her Blue Jays.
Léonne had a wonderful sense of humour and loved to share a laugh with everyone around her.
We are deeply grateful to the family members who supported and cared for Mom during her final month, enabling us to honour her wish of passing away peacefully at home, surrounded by family. Our heartfelt thanks go to the exceptional staff at Chalet Malouin and Home Care for their loving care and kindness.

Our deepest sympathies to Leonne’s children and their families and siblings and friends, it is never easy to say goodbye to someone that means so much to us, may the Lord that bless her on earth with such a long earthy life continue to hold her in his arms in his home in heaven until we meet her again.
