DONALD MOORE MARTIN


Passed away at the Tri Lake Health Centre, Killarney, MB, on Saturday, February 1, 2025, at the age of 86 years, Donald Moore Martin, of Wawanesa, MB.

Don leaves to mourn his passing his wife and best friend of 62 years, Margaret (nee Robinson); son, Blake (Patricia) of Edmonton, AB; daughter, Maureen Martin of Brandon, MB; four grandchildren, Avery, Zachary, Hannah and Eric; brother, Rex (Faye) Martin of Nesbitt, MB; sister, Aggie Jean (Fred) Wear of Minto, MB; sister-in-law, Ruth Martin of Souris, MB; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and extended relatives.

Don was predeceased by his parents, Arthur & Edith Martin; brothers, Gordon, Lorne (Betty), Bruce (Ruth) and Art in infancy.

Don left the family farm in 1955 to work at the Wawanesa Mutual Insurance Company. He spent most of his career in the claims department, retiring in 1995.

Don was a dedicated and proud member of the Wawanesa Lions club for 68 years. He held every position in the club, including three terms as president, as well as District roles. He was well-regarded as a mentor, historian and pin collector.

Don was very active in the Wawanesa community. Over the years, he served on the boards of the United Church, Sipiweske Museum, Recreation Centre, Curling Club, New Horizons Centre and Agricultural Society. He was also a volunteer firefighter and instrumental in the restoration of the Criddle/Vane Homestead.

In his spare time, Don enjoyed woodworking, camping, fishing, travelling with Margaret, fixing anything that needed fixing, and playing cards and pool at the New Horizons Centre.

Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, February 22, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. in the Wawanesa United Church with Shirley McBurney officiating. Following the service, friends are invited to a reception in the Wawanesa Community Hall. Interment will take place in the Minnewawa Cemetery.

Memorial donations can be made in Don’s memory to the Wawanesa & Area Foundation, Box 209, Wawanesa, MB, or to the Wawanesa Lions Club, Wawanesa, MB, R0K 2G0.
