LOUIS COURCHAINE

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Louis Courchaine, loving husband, father and grandfather, on February 1, 2025, at home after a brief illness.

Left to mourn and celebrate his life are his wife of 53 years, Jill (Dunn), his children, Sabrina (Nathan), Julie (Duane), and Jordan (Stephanie), as well as his grandchildren, Weylyn, Alfred, Madeline, Lyla, Vivian, Sarah and David. He is also survived by his brothers, Crocket (Bev), Roger (Wendy) and sister Dolores as well as numerous nieces and nephews and many close friends. He is predeceased by his parents, Basile and Rita (Blais), his brothers, Paul, Roland, Gerald, Marcel and sisters, Helen, Claudette, Cora, Emilie and Irene.

Louis was born on May 6, 1948, in Winnipeg, Manitoba, one of thirteen children. He worked hard his whole life, spending several decades at Victoria General Hospital as a power engineer and was also part owner of Dakota Concrete with his brothers, Roger and Gerald.

During his free time, he focused on family. He built his home and cabin at Grindstone Provincial Park with the help of close friends and family. He was involved in his children’s sports and extracurricular activities. His biggest joy was retirement and the opportunity to spend time with his seven grandchildren. He could regularly be found running between various arenas or diamonds to watch hockey, ringette or ball, often on a tight schedule with short turnaround times. His grandchildren could always count on seeing at least one familiar face at an 8:00 a.m. game!

We will hold on to the memories we made together, remembering and reflecting on his unsolicited advice and being grateful for his willingness to help at a moment’s notice, knowing we could always count on him. We will miss him very much.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, February 28, 2025, at noon at St. Martyrs-Canadiens Hall, 289 Dussault Avenue, Winnipeg.

The family would like to thank the Palliative Care team.

In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to a charity of your choice.
