We were very sorry to hear of Doug's passing. We were in Mexico for 2 months and just returned. We enjoyed our golfing and camping trips with him. He was such a joy to be around. We also had many times at the St. James Legion with him. He had such a presence and will be missed. So sorry from the Reilly's. - Posted by: bob and susan reilly (friends) on: Apr 26, 2025

Dear Betty and family, I was very sad to read Doug’s passing. Growing up in St James, you and your family were just across the back lane and I remember many good times together with the surrounding neighbours. I always remember when Doug made himself a little putting green in the back yard..and practiced. I had never seen anything like that…amazing! How old was I? I remember when he got on at the Fire Dept. He was so happy…everyone was happy for him. That’s the way St James was. Though I lost touch with you and your family over the years, having left Winnipeg myself I treasure those early years. Doug reminded me of your Dad. He was always an inspiring presence, friendly and a hearty laugh to remember. Despite the many years, he is not forgotten. My condolences to you and your families. - Posted by: Gerald Caron (Former neighbour) on: Mar 10, 2025

Had the honor of being stationed in my first firehall at the old Number 11 station on Berry Street. Doug was one of the seasoned veterans there and I was fortunate to have had the opportunity to work alongside him and other great guys. Doug had a heart of gold, gave everything at a fire and had great patience in helping rookies like myself at the time. Working with Doug was nothing less than enlightening. May he rest in peace. - Posted by: Tom Best (Co-worker) on: Feb 22, 2025

I liked Doug. I met Doug early in my career and had the pleasure of his company over fire hall coffee quite often, he brought a good story. Thanks for your time and consideration Doug. Hard worker at a fire. - Posted by: Michael Sparks (Colleague) on: Feb 19, 2025

Well I guess fishing is out of the question. I started working at #4 Legion, March 5,1975. That was the day I met Doug. A few days later we started going out. We made better friends than we did being a couple. In fifty years we had a lot of laughs. Doug was a piece of work but everyone loved him. Betty & Al I hope your memories of Doug will be what gets you through this difficult time. Sweet dreams Doug. You will be missed but never forgotten. The stories will keep going on. Thanks for the memories. - Posted by: Linda Schoffer (Friend) on: Feb 19, 2025
