Peacefully on Thursday, February 20, 2025, Rick Gunderson passed away at Douglas Campbell Lodge with his loving family by his side in Portage la Prairie, MB at the age of 80 years.
Rick is survived by the love of his life and ‘Main Squeeze’ Shirley; his special feline companion Miss Kitty; children Randean (Peter) son-in-law Clint and grandchildren Ashley and Autumn; Lindsay (Denton) and grandchildren Chase, Willow, Ryder and Connor; Tyson (Brenda); Ria (Tim) and grandchildren Myles and Brayden; Dianne (Rob) and grandchildren Nikki, Joey and Alysha; siblings Steven and Kayleen (Dave), brother in law, Rick Henderson, as well as great grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, friends and his AA family.
Rick was predeceased by his parents Sigrun and Louis, son Bobby, and siblings Vivian, Lorraine, Harold, Diane, Ted and Lorne.
A Celebration of Ricks life will be announced at a later date.
If friends so desire, donations may be made in Rick’s memory to The Alzheimer Society of Manitoba.
A tree will be planted in memory and cared for by McKenzies Portage Funeral Chapel.

I First met Richard in the early 80s and from that time he had his roots planted which grew into an amazing person! Both Richard & I were Government employees him at the Canadian Mint and me at the Department of Corrections. We spent many an evening going to meetings & drinking coffee as we progressed through the 12 Steps. We lost touch for many years as I had moved out of the country and reconnected the the Uglymugbook(aka. Facebook). I will always be thankful and grateful for knowing you and our friendship.
