Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryROSE MARIE PAULE GIRARD
Sadly, Rose Girard (née Joubert) passed away peacefully on the morning of February 18, 2025, at ActionMarguerite St. Vital (Foyer Valade), Winnipeg, at the age of 102.
Rose was born at St-Pierre-Jolys, Manitoba, on April 24, 1922, the eighth of 11 children of François Xavier Joubert and Eléonore Laroche. She grew up on a dairy farm with her two sisters and eight brothers. After graduating from the local convent school, she went on to Normal School in Winnipeg to obtain her teacher’s certificate and began a career as a schoolteacher.
While she was at Normal School, some of her brothers were training for the army during the Second World War. It was through them that she caught Léopold (Paul) Girard's eye. They married at St-Pierre-Jolys on May 10, 1947. They settled in their first home on a farm just south of Elie, where their first three sons were born. In 1952, Paul left the farm to run a Minneapolis Moline Dealership in Elie while continuing to farm for several more years. The family moved into a small two-bedroom house with no bathroom. A daughter and three more sons eventually joined the family. In 1964, the family moved to a larger house, where Rose ran the Elie post office from their home.
Sadly, in 1972, Paul passed away at the too young age of 53, just shy of their 25th wedding anniversary. To support the family, Rose continued running the post office and restarted her teaching career until her retirement in 1987. One of her most significant accomplishments was raising the youngest four children on her own after Paul passed. Rose was very proud of her children, and family meant everything to her, along with her Catholic faith.
Rose was predeceased by her parents, all 10 siblings, daughter-in-law Barbara and one son, Alain. She is survived by her children, Guy (Barb, deceased), Roger (Yvonne), Luc (Dolores), Raynald (Cheryl), Ginette (Randy Schinkel), Mario (Darlene), and daughter-in-law Marlene (Alain's wife). Rose will be lovingly remembered by her children, 16 grandchildren, and 21 great-grandchildren. She was especially proud of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and nothing frustrated her more in her later years than not being able to remember all their names.
Rose leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion to her family, as well as faith, strength, and resilience. Her life touched many, and she will be remembered fondly by all who knew her.
Funeral services will be held on May 3, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at the Blessed Sacrament Church in Elie.
The family wishes to extend their deepest gratitude to the staff at ActionMarguerite St-Vital (Foyer Valade) for their compassionate care and support.
In lieu of flowers and in her memory, we ask that you consider making a donation to the Alzheimer Society or Foyer Valade.

- Posted by: Joseph Joubert (neveu) on: Mar 04, 2025

My sincere sympathy on the passing of a very dear lady. She was part of my life through her family, as post mistress for Elie, member of the Blessed Sacrament, teacher in our schools and resident of the Cartier Manor. She was just everywhere, following her throughout her life. She was a pillar in our community. We will truly miss her. My thoughts and prayers are with the family at this time. God bless you all. - Posted by: Jocelyne Godin (Friend) on: Mar 04, 2025

Rose was a sincere and wonderful lady. As we grew up in Elie we were always welcomed in her home. I remember being a pre-teen and going to pickup the mail. She would open the counter, help me put it in a bag and send me on my way. Always so pleasant. Our sincere condolences to all the Girard family.
