EMMA MARGARET ROBERTSON

It is with profound sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Emma Margaret Robertson (née Wildeboer) on March 4, 2025, at St. Boniface Hospital.

Emma is lovingly remembered by her husband of 57 years, Joseph; son Bryan (Trish); daughter Joey (David); brothers, Karl (Marjorie), David (Lynn), Leonard (Grace, deceased). Emma was predeceased by her parents, Detert and Stientje Wildeboer, and sisters, Trudy Prikker (Ted) and Lydia Zytnyk (Nick).

Emma was born in Ochre River, MB and grew up in Makinak, MB. She later worked for MTS as a telephone operator in Roblin, MB before meeting Joe and moving to Winnipeg. After settling in Winnipeg, she was a receptionist for Uniroyal Tires. Once both her children were in school, the Principal encouraged Emma to apply for a position as an Educational Assistant. She then worked for the Seven Oaks School Division as an Educational Assistant at Elwick School for 29 years, retiring in 2009. Emma never hesitated to share the profound impact working for the school division had on her life, and she remained closely connected to many of the families of the children she supported. She continued to volunteer her time in schools in various capacities post-retirement. She was a humourous and loving person, who formed many meaningful relationships with co-workers throughout her career, relationships which lasted for the remainder of her lifetime.

In addition to her quick wit, Emma took great pride in once holding the record as the fastest female runner in Saskatchewan and Manitoba, and as she didn't own the correct footwear, she chose to run barefoot. Emma had an infectious laugh and once she began, she couldn't stop. She and Joe, along with their friends, enjoyed many trips to Las Vegas, Reno, Laughlin, and other gaming destinations. Emma was an expert crocheter, knitter and sewer.

Above all else, Emma loved her family. She was the best mother.

We would like to express our gratitude to the hospital staff at the St. Boniface Hospital emergency ward for their care and compassion.

In respect of Emma's final wishes, no formal funeral service will be held. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Emma's name to either the Seven Oaks Education Foundation or the St. Boniface Hospital Foundation.

Condolences & Memories (13 entries)

  • My deepest condolences to Joey, Brian, Joe and all the family at the passing of your amazing mother. I had the privilege of meeting and working with Emma at Elwick School as a new EA back in 1997. She took me under her wing and showed me the ropes with compassion, kindness, integrity, wisdom and warmth. What a wonderful blessing to have Emma as my mentor. That whole team of amazing EAs brought such inspiration, encouragement and humour to each day. Looking back I smile and give thanks for all those experiences which Emma would always chuckle and say; ”Yup..we can’t make this stuff up.. nobody would believe it!!” With a warm smile, hearty laughter and fond wave we could never say goodbye…only see you later…alligator…in a while crocodile! With my deepest condolences straight from my ❤️ Sincerely Anne Merlin (EA Seven Oaks School Division) - Posted by: Anne Merlin (Co-worker/friend) on: Mar 30, 2025

  • Emma joined Elwick staff (perhaps 1980-81) and made a real difference to the tone of the staffroom and to our worklife atmosphere. We marvelled at how she was able to do this while keeping a strong hold on the issue of serving kids and addressing their needs. Oh the stories we have!!!
