LEO PATRICK BRUCE

Born in St. Laurent, Manitoba on August 22, 1930, Leo Bruce passed peacefully on March 3, 2025, age 94.

Leo grew up in a rural setting near the shores of Lake Manitoba. He attended school in the area and upon graduating headed north and became a school teacher for two years on one of the northern reserves. He then decided to join the Canadian Army and served for 25 years. During his time he proudly became a paratrooper earning his wings at the base in Rivers, Manitoba. Eventually he jumped and broke his ankle resulting in him joining the Pay Corp, where he remained for the balance of his service.

This ultimately was lucky, as he was posted to Germany and at a dance met the love of his life, Christa Shulze-Berge. They were married in 1954 and welcomed their first child Michael in late 1955. In 1956, they were posted to Regina where Tom was born in 1958. In 1961, the family moved to Calgary. Leo and Christa raised the family in Calgary until he again was posted for the final time to Winnipeg in 1973. Dad retired and began work immediately for the Province in 1976 where he remained for 10 years. Ultimately, both Mom and Dad retired and spent over 25 years enjoying the sunshine in Sarasota, Florida.

The past several years both had been in declining health with Christa passing last May. Leo will be remembered as a loving husband, jokester, great dancer, and as a man who enjoyed a good laugh and plenty of beer! He is survived by both Mike's and Tom's families in Calgary and Winnipeg and will be sorely missed.

We want to thank all of the staff at the Convalescent Home of Winnipeg. They were wonderful, empathic, and supportive during his time there, especially the final few days.
