With much sadness, we announce the passing of Lynn B Chambers, who died after a brief illness on March 24, 2025, at the age of 85.
Lynn was born on July 8, 1939, in Brandon, Manitoba. He is predeceased by his parents John Albert and Jeannetta Chambers; siblings Milton Chambers, Alice Leachman, John Chambers, Pat Juniper, Florence Remus, Ross Chambers. He is survived by his children, Dean Chambers, Debbie (Flemming) Nielsen, Keri Chambers; his sisters Dorothy Lambkin, Margaret Davidson; 5 grandchildren (Christian, Rachel, Jonah, Cheyenne, Rafaela) and many nieces and nephews.
Lynn grew up on a farm just outside of Belmont, where he developed a love of hunting, fishing and the prairie landscape. These passions influenced his career path. In 1961, he graduated from the University of Manitoba with a degree in Agriculture. He worked for the Manitoba government on the Canada Land Inventory and was influential in the development of Oak Hammock Marsh, two of his proudest accomplishments.
His career took him to many places. He and his family spent several years in the Yukon, where Lynn was an advisor to the Commissioner and a Deputy Minister of Renewable Resources. Moving to Regina in 1981, he worked as the Director of the Soils and Water Conservation Services Division for the Prairie Farm Rehabilitation Administration. He ended his career with Ducks Unlimited Canada, once again at Oak Hammock Marsh, overseeing the Prairie Care Program. Post retirement, he served as Vice-Chair of the 1997 Manitoba Water Commission Red River Flood Review.
He loved golfing, picking berries, and curling. He baked the best pies and made a mean pickle. He spent his last few years living next to the lake in Killarney, bird watching out his back window.
He loved his family and was very proud of his children and grandchildren. He would always say his purpose was to leave the world a better place than he found it – that he did.
At his request, Lynn will be cremated and have a private graveside service at a later date. Donations, in his honour and in lieu of flowers, can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Heart & Stroke Foundation.
The family would like to thank Dr. Hennessey and the health care staff at Killarney Hospital for providing kind & compassionate palliative care. We would also like to thank his neighbours Janice & Paul, and Gerald & Shawna for all of their kindness and support through his journey. We are forever grateful.
