JULIE BAKER

Peacefully, and with dignity, Julie Baker died surrounded by all her loved ones at the Women’s Hospital on Tuesday, March 25, 2025. She was at 73 years old.

She was predeceased by her loving parents, George and Harriet Bernstein of Minneapolis and her brother-in-law Harold Laskin. Julie left behind her loving husband of almost 50 years, Philip Baker and daughter Rachel Baker, son-in-law Oren Graupe and her two fabulous grandchildren, Gabe and Hannah Graupe. She also left behind her sister Sandra Laskin. Her family and friends meant everything to her and she shared all her love generously with all who knew her.

Julie was a primary teacher working in Lord Selkirk School Division, Seven Oaks School Division and then taught mostly in the Jewish school system as a primary teacher. Phil and Julie had an exciting life, exploring 37 countries, often taking their daughter Rachel’s family with them. She will be missed by everyone who knew and loved her.

We would like to give special thanks to her doctors: Dr. Dean, Dr. Keane and Dr. Curtis, and all the wonderful staff at CancerCare for their care and kindness. Additionally, Tracy Kasner performed the service with grace, dignity and love for which we will be eternally grateful. The pallbearers were: Gary Laskin, Bryan Laskin, Max and George Laskin, Oren Graupe and Dean McFliker. Honorary pallbearers were: Fivie Gunn, Ian Leibel, Henry Wolfe and David Bednar.

  • Julie was a kind, caring teacher who always had the best interest of each of the children she taught. I always loved going into her classroom and watch the action. She knew just how to make each child feel special. Thank you Julie for the gift of your friendship. We had many good times that I will always remember and cherish. - Posted by: Becky (Warren) Webber (friend/ principal at Shore Elementary at the Jewish Campus) on: Apr 05, 2025
