It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, aunt, sister, sister-in-law and friend to many, Thelma Davis. Thelma passed away peacefully, with her family by her side, at Ste. Rose Health Centre in the early morning of Monday, March 31, 2025.
She leaves to mourn her passing her cherished children, Karyn, Dean (Marilyn), and Marlene; her precious grandchildren, Sean (Nick), Barrett, Shelby, Brittany, Justin (Kayla), Dylan, Jenelle (Brent), Matthew (Ariana), Kaitlyn (Dexter), Sierra, Randy, and her granddaughter Destiny with whom she had a special bond; great-grandchildren, Riley (Daja), Hailee, Kaymen, Avyana; great-great-grandson Zurayues; her sisters, Betty and Fern; brothers, Arnold (Val) Ivor, Garth (Tracy), and Kelly; sisters-in-law, Sandra, Carol, Caroline, Freda and brother-in-law Joe.
Thelma was predeceased by her beloved son Randy Kevin, husband Frankie Davis; granddaughter Rhiannon; her parents, Evelyn and Norman Asham, brother Stevie, special cousin Ronnie; her mother and father-in-law Louisa and Pat Davis; sisters-in-law, Lucy, Josephine, Doris, Rose, Hilda, and her brothers-in-law, Bob, Jim (Vera), Richard, Christopher.
God children: Derek Cochrane, Lance Mancheese, Melanie Monkman, Chelsey McIvor and Wynita McIvor. Mom leaves many nieces, nephews, and many friends; special nephews Jamie and his wife Bonnie, Lennie, and Johnny Cake; special niece Arlene Mousseau; Her long time worker, Burt Flatt; her special friend whom she loved like a daughter; Diane Gray.
Mom was born in Reedy Creek on September 23, 1943. She was the eldest of seven children born to Norman and Evelyn.
Mom was brought up with traditional values and learned how to work at an early age; cutting wood and milking cows. She left home at 14 years of age to begin working at the bakery in Ste. Rose.
In 1959 she met Frankie. Mom and Dad married in February of 1964, and had four children, Karyn, Dean, Kevin, and Marlene. Mom was blessed with 11 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandson. Dad used to tell us that he first laid eyes on mom when she came to play soccer at the Hillridge School Field. He said she was the goalie and it was love at first sight. Mom and dad shared 43 years together as husband and wife.
They started a life in 1969, where mom began working numerous jobs finishing at Canada Packers after eight years. In 1975, she and Frankie then moved back home to Bacon Ridge and started their own business, Davis Taxi which included Davis Café, Poolhall, Gas bar and Towing business.
In 1979, Wilkinson’s Store burnt down and the next day an individual from Canada Post walked in and asked Mom to start work as the Postmaster.
She always said she started with a small cash box and a roll of stamps. She worked right up to the day she became sick, September of last year.
Mom worked for Canada Post for 46 years and didn’t use one sick day in her first 40 years of employment. She also managed the taxi service, operated the school bus and two rental properties after our dad passed which was a huge job, but she did it with determination and courage.
Mom taught us the importance of good manners, respect, sound moral values and solid work ethic. She worked extremely hard to earn what she had; and she was extremely generous with it. For as far back as we can remember, mom has given money to numerous foundations and church organizations. Every time they sent mom their campaign material, mom made it a priority to write a cheque and send it back. She had so much empathy and compassion for others and we’re very proud that got passed down to her children and grandchildren.
Our mother Thelma was a warm, compassionate, and vibrant woman who always went out of her way to help others - no matter what. We had many pets throughout our lives that mom loved, and she always tended to the strays, no matter what they were doing to her flower garden.
Some of the highlights of mom’s life was watching all her children graduate grade 12; Dean and Marlene graduating post-secondary, receiving a 40-year pin from Canada Post, being able to attend her grandson Justin’s graduation at RCMP Depot and something she thought she never do - fly to Tennessee. Mom had the opportunity to meet one of her favourite artists, Dolly Parton. She loved music and dancing. She loved spending time with family and friends, whether it be the annual Trail Ride, Boxing Day at The Narrows or the Annual Asham Stomper Festival. That is where many fond memories were made with family and friends that she cherished.
Mom provided us with unconditional love, guidance and most importantly help with our daily lives. Her loss is truly unbearable, but our mom would have wanted everyone to celebrate her life with honour and acts of kindness. She was not afraid to die and now she is gloriously reunited with her son, Kevin, husband Frankie and brother Stevie, who she loved so dearly before he left this world at age 10.
Our family thanks Dr. Gudmundson, and all of the incredible staff of the Ste. Rose Hospital for their unwavering care of mom. The nursing staff, health care aides, dietary staff, housekeeping staff treated mom with so much love and kindness. We’ll forever be grateful for that.
Many thanks, and Miigwech to all of our family, friends and the community of Ebb and Flow who sent prayers, condolences and contributions. No words can express our sincere appreciation for all that has been done.
Mom left us with many great memories, and we feel privileged and honoured to have known her as mom and grandma. May her kind, caring and generous spirit live on in all who loved her.
We’ll see you again someday mom; and that time it will be forever.
Prayers will be offered on Sunday, April 6, 2025, at 7:00 p.m. in the Ebb and Flow First Nation Community Complex, Ebb and Flow First Nation. At Thelma's request, an all night wake will not be held.
Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, April 7, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. in the Ste. Rose de Lima Roman Catholic Church in Ste. Rose du Lac, MB. Viewing will be held at the church prior to the service from 11:00 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. Fr. Moise Adossou will celebrate the mass. Following the mass, cremation will take place and interment will take place at a future date in the Ste. Rose Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Darcy Turko, Nathan Asham, Burt Flatt, Wally Roulette, Carlos Malcolm and Lennie Davis. All of Thelma's family and friends are to consider themselves as honorary pallbearers.

We are so very sorry for your profound loss Dean, Marilyn and the entire Davis and Asham families. What a beautiful tribute to an amazing woman you were lucky to call Mom. She will continue to live on in each and every one of you. We have no doubt that she is and will continue to lovingly look down on all of you, as well as rejoicing in being reunited with loved ones. In that short time that we’ve known you Dean through jigging (Quillan), we see in you those same attributes, qualities she instilled and passed down to you. Our condolences to Dean, Marilyn and the Davis family. We never met her but Dean has shared plenty of stories of her and her activities in the community.
