SHIRLEY LAND

Shirley Anne Land, age 83, born February 21, 1942, passed away on April 5, 2025.

She was predeceased by her mother Elizabeth Charlotte Morin (nee Copp), her brother James Raymond Land, and sister-in-law Anneli (Ann) Elvi Land, as well as many lifelong friends. She is survived by some of her cousins on the Copp side of the family, and a few lifelong old friends.

From birth into her 81st year, Shirley lived in a home on the same property where her grandfather once had a blacksmith shop in Headingley, Manitoba. She was fiercely independent and self-reliant, continuing to live on her own even after losing her eyesight. Sadly, the time came when it was necessary for her to move where she could receive help with some of life's daily tasks. We thank those who provided that help, including the kindness of the staff at the Notre-Dame Health Centre and Foyer Notre-Dame Personal Care Home, as well as the tender care from staff at Golden West Centennial Lodge in the final chapter of Shirley's life.

Shirley loved animals. She is famous for her flock of white geese. She raised rabbits. She had several birds in her home, as well as cats and a dog named Tiger. Shirley enjoyed crafting. She loved country music and knew the lyrics of many songs by heart. She could also identify a song after only hearing one or two bars of the music. In addition to being a caregiver to her mother, Shirley worked as a Hospitality Hostess at the Headingley Husky House Restaurant. Shirley's character will be missed.

For those who would like, on Wednesday, April 9, 2025, at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue, there will be a viewing from 10:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.; followed by Informal Sharing of how you knew Shirley and your Memories about her; with a light lunch from 11:00 a.m. to 12:20 p.m.; Interment at 12:30 p.m.
