In Loving Memory of Richard Thomas Tonn. With broken hearts, we announce the peaceful passing of our dear husband, father, grandfather, and friend.
Richard was predeceased by his parents Julius and Florence (nee Nairn), sisters Heather Tonn and Fern Jory. Richard is survived by his wife Ildiko Hildy, son David (Jill) and daughter Cynthia, and beloved grandchildren Sam and Jessica Tonn.
Richard was born and raised in Winnipeg. He started working at Eaton's in the shoe department in 1965. While at Eaton's, he met Ildiko, his future wife. Richard left Eaton’s in 1973 to join Carter Motors. Richard liked the new demos he got to drive but, always practical, his next job started in the spring of 1974 with the Manitoba Liquor Control Commission. Richard spent 31 years as an employee in various positions in the warehouse and stores for the Commission until his retirement in 2006.
Richard loved cars, traveling, and music. He traveled extensively in the USA with friends during his twenties, driving his '69 Cutlass. After he got married, travel turned into camping across Canada and the USA, as well as the occasional splurge to DisneyWorld. After retirement Richard and Hildy were able to travel more extensively including a cruise to the Panama Canal, Hong Kong and mainland China. In his later years Richard enjoyed cheering on the Winnipeg Jets. He was a quiet man of few words, but with a good sense of humour. He kept one liner jokes always at the ready.
The family would like to sincerely thank the Grace Hospital for successfully repairing Richard's broken hip. They would also like to thank the Geriatric Rehabilitation Ward on the 4th floor of Seven Oaks Hospital. The wonderful staff provided exceptional care since December 20, 2024. when he initially went in for rehabilitation.
A Memorial Service will be held at North Kildonan United Church on April 24, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. Reverend Susan Reed to officiate. In memory of Richard, in lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to a charity of your choice.

Peaceful, on Sunday, April 6, 2025, with family by his side, Richard passed away at Seven Oaks Hospital.
A memorial service will be held at North Kildonan United Church, 174 Pentland Ave. Date to be announced.

We are truly sorry for the loss of such a good friend and neighbor. I personally enjoyed the many times we would meet in our yards while doing yard work. I enjoyed his pleasant manner and I will miss seeing him working on his flowers or one of his great prides, his water fountain. Rest in peace my friend I am proud to have been a friend of yours.
