HAROLD EDWARD GRANKE

September 12, 1930 - April 3, 2025

After a brief illness, surrounded by the love of his family, Harold Granke entered eternal rest on April 3, 2025. Harold was married for 68 years to Patricia (nee Hibbert deceased 2020) and had three children, Robert (Lynn), Gary (Naomi) and Elaine (Bruce Gelhorn deceased January 2023).

Harold was a doting grandfather to Jonathan Granke (Jennifer), Sarah Granke (Gavin Spaetzel), Brett Granke (Lisa Adams), Carl Granke, Reid Granke (Katie Lavoie), Jamie Morrison (Daniel), Sarah Osswald (Matthew), Heidi Gelhorn, and Leif Gelhorn (Diana Schreibmaier). Papa brought much joy to their lives and will be missed by his great-grandchildren, June, Rose, August, Marley, Mason, Lenni, Kinley, Noah, Grady, Becket. Harold is also survived by his brother-in-law Kenneth Hibbert and his nieces, Barbara Hibbert, Kathleen Hibbert and partner Martin along with great-niece Elizabeth. He was predeceased by his wife Patricia, parents, Edward and Mary Granke, sister Florence and son-in-law Bruce Gelhorn. His daily phone calls are fondly remembered by cousins, Pat and Dennis Steer.

Harold was a friend to many, be they colleagues, neighbours and pretty much any one he met. He was employed by the City of Winnipeg for 37 years in various senior positions. Harold was very sociable and had a wicked sense of humour which surfaced often. Dad's jokes were legendary. He was always looking for a deal and helped many when it came to purchases big or small "I can get it wholesale for you!"

Harold was a person of deep faith, a longtime member of Grace Lutheran Church, attending regular worship services, contributing in various ways over the years to the benefit of the congregation. He especially enjoyed the monthly men's breakfast gatherings which brought much joy. He was a Cub Scout leader for many years, influencing young people with positive life skills and values. His warm and genuine nature, compassion towards others was fundamental to his life, such as serving as a volunteer with the Trinity Food Pantry.

Harold enjoyed many friendships at Devonshire House, participating in bingo, card games, sing-a-longs, and carpet bowling. Thanks to friends and staff who enriched his years there.

Dad will be fondly remembered as someone who lived a good and long life and took every opportunity to serve others and bring joy into the world. He will be deeply missed by many.

Donations can be made to Grace Lutheran Church Memorial Fund. A service of celebration will be held on April 17, 2025, at 1:30 p.m. at Grace Lutheran Church, 211 Kimberly Avenue in Winnipeg. Pastor Rick and Bishop Elaine Sauer officiating. (live streaming via Grace Lutheran website)
