JUDY LINDA LAI

(nee NG)

October 21,1936 - April 8, 2025

It is with heavy hearts and deep gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the passing of Judy Linda Lai on April 8, 2025, at the age of 88.

Judy was the beloved wife of Benjamin with whom she shared 66 wonderful years of marriage. She was a devoted and loving mother to Michael (Susan) and Jacqueline; proud grandmother to James (Tessa), Dana (Ryan) and Robyn; and adoring great-grandmother to Bryce and Malia. She also leaves behind many dear nieces, and nephews whose lives she touched with her warmth and wisdom.

Born on October 21, 1936, Judy dedicated more than 33 years to a meaningful career in nursing at St. Boniface Hospital in Winnipeg, where she was admired for her compassion, professionalism and calming presence. Outside her work, she found joy and vitality in the game of tennis and in travelling the world. Her favourite places-St. Ives in England and the Big Island of Hawaii-offered peace, beauty and cherished memories.

Judy's presence brought light to those around her. Her grace, generosity, and love for family will forever be remembered and missed.

A private family service was held in honour of Judy's life. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to a charity of your choice in her memory.

Condolences & Memories (5 entries)

  • I met Judy in mid 1960s in Winnipeg. We had remained close friends since then. Judy was a considerate, kind, compassionate lady. She and Benny are a perfect match and they found true love in each other. Judy had an abundant of loves for the family and were very proud of her children, grand children and great grandchildren. My deepest sympathy goes for Benny and the family. May God grant Benny the strength to accept the challenges and march on the roads with ease. May Judy RIP. • It is with extreme sadness to learn of the passing of Judy. I met Judy in the 1960’s in Winnipeg, and our friendship continued in Vancouver, after we moved to Vancouver. Her quick exit was a surprise as we met for luncheon in Dec, 2024. We spent a great afternoon together. I would like to send my deepest sympathy to Benny and his family. You have lost a companion, a mother, a grandmother and a great-grandmother. May all of you will shoulder on, and march forward in life, to make Judy proud from the above. My thoughts are with all of you! Marilyn Yip. - Posted by: Marilyn Yip (Friend) on: Apr 19, 2025

  • Jackie and I spent many nights with Judy and Ben. Jackie had many good times with Judy and very sad to see her pass. As Jackie passed last year hopefully the two will join hands in heaven and get together. My sincere condolences to the family. Ian Wallace - Posted by: Ian wallace (Friend) on: Apr 19, 2025

  • I taught nursing with Judy at SBGH school of nursing. Judy called a spade a spade. Once she let you past her gruff exterior... she was on your side. She loved her family. Especially those grandchildren and great grands. A very hard working , experienced nurse with a sense of humor. - Posted by: Jocelyn Preston (SBGH school of nursing colleague) on: Apr 19, 2025

  • As a former student of Judy’s, I will always remember her way of teaching. You would read how to do a skill from a textbook but then Judy would show you the better way to do it :). A pleasure it was to be taught by her. Gods Speed. - Posted by: Bruce (Former Student) on: Apr 19, 2025
