David Rae Thompson passed away at Grace Hospital on April 8, 2025, at the age of 91. David was predeceased by his loving wife Jean Catherine Thompson (nee Rennick) in 2021. David and Jean celebrated 58 years of marriage: together they raised David (Sheri, and children Kara and Matt), and Cathie (Grant).
Dad was a remarkable father in that he never missed any of his children’s extra curricular activities - he always made time to be there. Dad graduated from The University of Toronto with a Bachelor of Civil Engineering, and a Masters in Environmental Engineering. David was the Head of Waste Management for the Province of Manitoba - he retired in 1993. He was the Past President of The Juvenile Diabetes Association. It was a commitment near and dear to his heart.
A Memorial Service in Celebration of David’s life will be held at Calvary Place, 1325 Erin Street in Winnipeg on Saturday May 3 at 1:30 p.m. A fitting tribute to David’s long and rich life would be a donation to The Juvenile Diabetes Association, now known as Breakthrough TD1 Canada, 235 Yorkland Boulevard, Suite 1201, Toronto , ON M2J 4Y8.

David was always one of my most beloved parishioners. He had a quick wit, a keen intellect and a fabulous sense of humour. He was a committed church member and a utterly kind and decent humanity being. Seeing Dave and Jean in a Sunday morning always made the world a little bit brighter.
