JOAN (GERTRUDE) MCLEAN

With profound sadness we announce that our loving mother Joan (Gertrude) McLean (nee Cheshire), grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on April 28, 2025, at the age of 91 in Winnipeg at the Grace Hospital.

Born in Winnipeg on September 7, 1933, Mom was predeceased by her loving husband Vernon of 62 years, parents, Eric and Ann, brothers, Alfred and Hubert and is survived by her three children, Doug (Wanda), Greg, and Lisa (Gerry) and sister Marguerite, eight granchildren and ten great-grandchildren.

Throughout her life Mom was very active in her community including working several years for the St. James School Division where she was one of the founding members of MANTE. Mom was also a passionate volunteer at the Church of St. Stephen and St. Bede where she volunterred at their food bank and tirelessly dedicated herself to her Alter Guild and related activities at the church. Many thanks to the Emergency staff at the Grace Hospital who provided excellent care for our Mom.

A Celebration of Life will be held at St. Mary's Anglican Church, Winnipeg. (The Church of St. Stephen and St. Bede is co-located within) on May 17 at 11:00 a.m. located at 3830 Roblin Blvd., Winnipeg, MB (Corner of Roblin Boulevard and Haney Street) refreshments to follow.

Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • Joan was one of the most beloved members of St. Stephen and St. Bede. Getting to know her was one of the greatest gifts we have been given. We enjoyed her company at church and when we went out for lunch afterward. Joan worked tirelessly at the church, volunteering whenever she was needed. We were all spoiled with the fresh baking she made for coffee after church. Even though she hadn't been feeling well for some time, she rarely missed coming to church and continued her volunteer activities. It will be difficult to go to church and not have her there. Our sympathy to her family. We love you Joan. Rest in peace. - Posted by: Donna and Steve Friesen (friends) on: May 04, 2025

  • Many positive memories of working with Joan on Condo Board affairs and Jeanette helping her with Social activities. Joan was always willing to take the lead in organizing events and seeing them through to completion. She will be dearly missed. Al & Jeanette. - Posted by: Al & Jeanette Steinhubl (Condo Friends) on: May 03, 2025
