GORDON BARNSON

October 16, 1926 - April 24, 2025

We truly lost a hero on April 24, 2025. At 98 years of age, Gordon Barnson passed away peacefully in his sleep after a difficult struggle since falling and breaking his hip on January 20, 2025.

Born on October 16, 1926, Gordon lived a remarkable life from beginning to end and touched the lives of many people along the way. He certainly left his mark on this world.

At age 17, Gordon signed up for the Navy in 1944. In 1945, he signed papers to serve in the Pacific theatre and was posted to HMCS La Hulloise. Gordon attained the rank of Stoker 1st Class.

Gordon grew up in Selkirk, Manitoba, moving to Winnipeg to marry the love of his life, Lorraine.

In civilian life, Gordon studied hard, attaining his 1st class power engineering ticket, and rising through the ranks to become General Manager over Crescent Creamery and Modern Dairies operations.

Gordon is one of the founding members of Platford's Landing, our summer community on Lake of the Woods. He loved sharing his connection to Mother Nature with his children and grandchildren.

Gordon is survived by his two children, Dianne and Paul (Pat), and grandchildren, Carl (Rachel) and Eric (Tori).

The family invites you to come reminisce and share stories of Gordon’s life on Thursday, May 8, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at E.J. Coutu, 680 Archibald Street.

Condolences & Memories (3 entries)

  • Although I only met Gordon once he was a wonderful friend of my brother Warren Bergner. Gordon and his friend Gordon welcomed my brother to their breakfast group many years ago at the Jolley Mug. They would pick up Warren and return him home each week. My brother loved their company and enjoyed Paul and his friend as well. God bless you, Gordon.
