It is with deep sadness that we announce the sudden passing of James Kenneth Martens on April 24, 2025, at his home in Winnipeg, MB at the age of 71.

He is survived by his daughter Angela Gregory; son-in-law Jeffrey Gregory; grandson Michael; sister Barb; brothers, Jake, Bill, Ron and Ed (d. James was born on December 29, 1954, in Cartwright, MB to parents, Peter and Barbara Martens. He spent his childhood growing up on the family farm in southern Manitoba. He attended schools in Mather, MB, Crystal City, MB and Winkler, MB.

He worked as a manager at CO-OP in Winkler as well as being resident caretaker of Boulton Estates in Winnipeg and working for the City of Winnipeg. He enjoyed spending time at his beloved cabin at Lake Irwin in Neepawa, MB. He enjoyed his role in the tenants committee at his apartment block in Winnipeg and made many close friends there. Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • Our sincere condolences to the Martens family on the passing of 2 brothers only 4 days apart. May you find peace in the memories of Jim. Art and Elaine Harms. - Posted by: ART HARMS (Neighbor.) on: May 18, 2025

  • I was in elementary school with Jim (we called him Jimmy). My closest memories are from grades 3 through 6. We were a very small class (5 maybe) … I could name all of us, but will refrain. However … our teachers were Margaret Vincent and Dorothy Schramn (sp?). Jimmy Martin was the sweetest, nicest little boy. I, along with my friend Moira, used to spend many happy times together…swinging on the swings, playing baseball, telling jokes and laughing. I am very sorry to hear of his passing. I am so glad to hear he had a huge extended family around him. Please accept my condolences. I know his family and his friends will miss him dearly. - Posted by: Cynthia Vincent (Mather Elementary school friend) on: May 16, 2025
