Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryYVONNE MARIE HUNTER
After a long illness that stole nearly everything except her wicked sense of humour, Yvonne died surrounded by love and laughter.
She was predeceased by her husband Don, her parents and her siblings and is survived by her children, Kim (Rob) and Chris (Lisa), her beloved grand-dog Percy, and extended family.
Yvonne was an accomplished teacher and teacher-librarian in both Manitoba and B.C. and she truly loved teaching and the students and staff she worked with. Yvonne was clever, well-read, and always resourceful. Whether it was serving as a Councillor in the LGD (RM) of Alexander, on a Teachers' Union or yearbook committee, staining a deck, or reroofing a shed, she always did what needed to be done.
Yvonne was not naturally outgoing, and her shyness often came off as gruff. Once you got past this she was kind, silly, and loved to have fun. Our Mom loved to play games, and she really loved to win, especially at bridge. Softball, curling, golf, bowling, crosswords, Yahtzee, and of course cards - she was great at all of them and always up to play with a willing (victim) partner. She enjoyed travel to new places and enjoyed road trips with her sister Jeanne, especially to visit Jocelyne and Lucky in Providence or Cape Cod. Later she travelled with her kids to the Caribbean, across the Panama Canal, and a last great trip to Australia and New Zealand. She loved music - but only if it had lots of bass and a great beat. What she loved the most was having her kids and family and friends gathered together for a dinner that she didn't cook, with of course, lots of wine and music.
Kim and Chris would like to express our most heartfelt gratitude to the staff and residents of the Riverview CD3 community for two years of kindness, care, and compassion. Martha, your extraordinary care made a huge difference in Mom's life - thank you! Carly, Lai Ling, Harmandeep, Amandeep, Carlos, Katherine and so many more - thank you all from the bottom of our hearts.
In keeping with her wishes cremation has taken place, and a family dinner (with lots of wine) was held. We love you little Momma.

Yvonne and I graduated from St. Joseph Academy in St. Boniface back in 1962. We both forged our own paths but stayed in touch. We renewed happy memories when the class celebrated our 50th year of graduation. Yvonne's nickname at school was "The Prof" as she was well gifted in answering all questions in class. I organized many luncheons with the girls from our class and she was always a willing participant coming with a small group of us to Las Vegas when we all turned 70...we had a blast. It is unfortunate that in her last years we were not kept in touch as to her condition as I would have dearly loved to renew memories with her. Rest in peace Yvonne and say hi to all the girls that have preceded you. - Posted by: Paulette Beaudry (Dyrda) (Classmate at St.Joseph Academy) on: Jun 15, 2025

Chris, Kim and family - We are so sorry to read about Yvonne’s passing. We always enjoyed her company and unique sense of humour. Joe appreciated working with her at Happy Thought and she and I served together on many committees. Speaking of her competitive spirit she once spared in a curling game where we women challenged our husbands to settle the discussion of whether men or women were the stronger curlers. May she rest in peace reunited with Don and may the precious memories of the life you shared bring you comfort. My deepest sympathies to my little cousin for the loss of their mother from your 2nd cousin through the Chartier side of the family. Yvonne's mother Céleste is first cousin to my late father Adrien Girouard. - Posted by: Richard Girouard (2nd cousin) on: Jun 07, 2025

Yvonne was a well respected teacher at Happy Thought School in East Selkirk. She brought much joy to all the students. We shared many laughs and memories in the staff room at HTS. Thank you for all you did to enrich the lives of your students. You will be missed. - Posted by: Becky (Warren) Webber (friend) on: Jun 07, 2025
