MATTHEW JOHN (JACK) MCCLINTOCK

July 26, 1936 - June 12, 2025

It is with deep sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Jack, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, surrounded by his loving family at the age of 88.

Jack will be dearly missed by his wife Noreen; daughters, Janette, Karen, and Barbara; son-in-law Blair; and cherished grandchildren, Matthew, Lyndsy, and Brady. He is also remembered by his sisters, Betty and Margaret, and many nieces and nephews in both Canada and Ireland. Jack was predeceased by his parents, Andrew and Martha, sisters, Maureen and Valerie, and in-laws, Matt and Eileen Donnell.

Born in Donegal, Ireland, Jack grew up in Londonderry with his four sisters. A gifted athlete, he fulfilled his childhood dream by playing professional football (soccer) until a knee injury shifted his passion to golf and badminton. He met Noreen at a dance and married a year later in 1960. In 1971, with three young daughters in tow, Jack and Noreen made the brave decision to immigrate to Canada, arriving just in time for a historic Halloween blizzard.

Jack worked as a Fitter Welder at Canada Packers before moving into a successful career in sales. With encouragement from his close friend Greg Giles, he utilized his Irish gift for conversation to join Glidden Paint and later launched his own office furniture agency, retiring at the young age of 80. Jack was a dedicated member of the Masons at St. John's Lodge No.4, serving multiple terms as Master, and gave back generously as a longtime blood donor.

Jack's love of being active allowed him and Noreen to build lifelong friendships who became like family, at both the Canoe and Wildwood Clubs. Jack proudly represented Manitoba in both badminton and lawn bowling and later served as a national badminton umpire. He cherished golfing with Noreen, friends and his youngest daughter. Jack was highly competitive, especially in golf, where he relished participating in Mundie Putter and many tournaments over the years. He achieved numerous victories and valued the opportunity to meet new people on the links.

Jack enjoyed family adventures. He loved road trips to Jasper with his young family, winters down south in Hilton Head with friends, and many trips all over the world with Noreen. He enjoyed time with family and shared his love for sports and of course dogs, with his daughters. His faithful dog Derry was a constant companion and rarely left his side these last 12 years. Jack's grandchildren brought him immense joy, and they learned early on that Grandpa never let the truth get in the way of a good story.

The family extends heartfelt thanks to the doctors and staff at St. Boniface Hospital (5E) for their compassionate care in Jack's final days.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, June 25, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. at Glen Lawn Funeral Home, 455 Lagimodiere Blvd, Winnipeg, MB. A private family interment will follow at Glen Lawn Cemetery.

If you wish, in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Winnipeg Humane Society in memory of Jack to honour his love of dogs.
