WALTER KUPIAK
After a courageous battle with cancer, it is with heavy hearts and deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Walter at the Selkirk Regional Health Centre. Walter passed away on a day which was to have been a celebration of his and Rose-Anne's 65th wedding anniversary.
He will be lovingly remembered and deeply missed by his wife Rose-Anne, the love of his life, soulmate, and best friend, his daughters, Brenda (Eldon), Debbie (Mark), son Brad (Lisa), granddaughters, Jennifer (Gord), Courtney (Brian), Kimberly (Nathan), great-granddaughters, Ella, Zoe, Claire and Olivia, sisters, Pat (John), Dianne, Barb (Rick), Mildred, Bernice, brother-in-law George, nieces and nephews, along with many dear friends.
Walter was a lifelong resident of St. Andrews, where he grew up and went to school. He met Rose-Anne at their summer jobs at Skinner's in Lockport, which led to their courtship and marriage in 1960. He graduated from Red River College with an Electronics Degree and began his career in Winnipeg. After a few years he decided to venture out on his own establishing St. Andrews Electronics, which he owned and operated successfully until his retirement. Through volume sales he earned numerous trips and prizes which gave Walter and Rose-Anne the opportunity to travel extensively throughout the world to many exotic and fascinating destinations. After his retirement he became an active partner in Rose-Anne's travel company Embassy Tours where they continued their love of travel and adventure. He especially enjoyed ocean and river cruising. During these travels many long-lasting and close friendships were made.
Over the course of his life, Walter attended the Holy Trinity Church in Gonor where he served as a president and committee member. He also was a charter member of the Knights of Columbus.
Walter loved sitting on his deck admiring his yard. He enjoyed golfing, curling, fishing, camping, dining out and watching the Jets, Blue Bombers and curling on T.V.
Family was very important to Walter. He took great pride and joy in witnessing the accomplishments of his children and grandchildren, finding fulfillment in their happiness and success. He had a deep love for his family and cherished the many celebrations. Their visits and calls always put a smile on his face.
He will be remembered for his kind heart, warm smile, peaceful nature, witty humour, unlimited generosity, and most of all his courage. He was an amazing and honorable man. Despite his health challenges over the last two years, his spirit remained happy, hopeful and strong. His zest for life is an inspiration. We will always carry his memory in our hearts.
We extend a thank you to the staff at CancerCare, who walked alongside us and provided unwavering support.
In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made in Walter's honour to CancerCare Manitoba.
In keeping with Walter's wishes, cremation has taken place and a private Celebration of Life will be held.

To Rose-Anne and family - Please accept my deepest condolences, I’m so sorry for your loss. Thank you for including me and Lynn in this celebration of Walter’s life. I am so honoured. Walter gave me my first break at a full-time permanent position as an electronic technician. I will always be grateful to him for the opportunity. Walter was a great mentor, showed lots of patience and kindness to me and others. I never saw him get angry, always had that little smile on his face, such a gentleman. Must have had a great wife to keep him happy… I remember always staying late after closing the shop, just chatting about life. He was so proud of his family, was always talking about his kids and grandchildren. He was also proud of his success in business. I often wonder where we would be if the industry hadn’t changed. I think Walter was happier helping Rose-Anne with Embassy Tours. He sure loved to travel. It was always a joy to stop impromptu and visit with Walter and Rose-Anne. You always made me feel welcomed. When I think of Walter, these words come to mind: charming, proud, kind, generous, family man, peaceful. Sending you all our love, Eugene and Lynn Fillion - Posted by: Eugene Fillion (co-worker, friend) on: Jul 08, 2025

Jay and I want to extend our most heartfelt condolences to the entire Kupiak family. We will always remember Uncle Walter as such a sweet and funny presence. Some of my fondest memories growing up are from the many competitive card games he and Auntie Roseanne played with my parents, and the Christmas dinners shared together. Cancer is undeniably cruel, but it can never overshadow the countless cherished memories you shared together. We hope those moments of joy, love, and laughter will always shine brightly, providing comfort and strength. - Posted by: Tracy Postoluk & Jason Huff (Nice, Nephew in law) on: Jun 27, 2025

Our deepest condolences to you and your family in Walter's passing. A fine gentleman! Great memories of our Mediterranean Cruise in '98. Our life has also taken on a different turn, John now being in a long term care home. May good memories help ease your sorrow. I am saddened to learn of Walter's passing. Walter was a special, unique person who possessed strength, resilience and an unwavering spirit to the very end of his battle. Cancer is cruel and has no mercy, but it leaves us with special memories to cherish of the good times in years past. My husband (Ray) often spoke of his friendship shared with Walter working at Skinners, playing hockey together, double-dating and sharing family events together. Having experienced the loss of "the love of my life" (Ray) earlier, I learned to cherish the memories I have of the years passed as they helped me pass through some dark days of sorrow. I hope you, Roseanne, find comfort in your memories as well of your years together with Walter. I wish you and your family comfort and peace and pray Walter has found peace in God's heavenly kingdom. - Posted by: Carlyle Andryo (Relative) on: Jun 21, 2025
