FREDERICK DENIS WILLIAMS

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Frederick Denis Williams (who preferred to go by Dennis) on Thursday August 28, 2025, in Grace hospital ICU, with family by his side.

Dennis was born in Ste Rose Du Lac on April 30, 1949. He spent his childhood on the farm and moved to the St James area of Winnipeg in 1956. Dennis had a varied career, working at Deer Lodge Hospital, Wawanesa Insurance, and retiring from the Society for Manitobans in 2007. He was a handyman at heart, enjoying projects and fixing broken things. Dennis had an appreciation for classic cars and put that to good use restoring a 1969 GTO convertible. With a military background in the family, he encouraged his sons to join cadets, and took immense enjoyment in their participation. Dennis spent many happy years in the cottage at Moose Lake enjoying good food and drink with family and friends. He loved snowbirding to Texas and Mexico to escape the Manitoba winter.

Dennis was predeceased by his father George Williams; mother Helen (née Nieman). He is survived by his sisters, Veldine (Ed) and Iris (Clyde); his sons, Jason (Nicole) and Kristian; ex-wife Heather; as well as countless nieces, nephews, family and friends.

The family would like to thank Tricia for her presence and support, and extend our appreciation to the entire staff at the Grace Hospital ICU including Robyn, Ruth, Ruby, Kortelyn, Courtney, Nev, Dr Friesen, and Dr. Peter for their tireless care and understanding.

A Celebration of Life will be planned at a later date and updates will be available. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Grace Hospital foundation (https://www.gracehospitalfoundation.ca).

Condolences & Memories (3 entries)

  • Dennis was the Senior Technician at Society for Manitobans with Disabilities (now called Manitoba Possible). He was the "go to" technician who had knowledge of all wheelchairs and how to repair/maintain them. Always willing to give a helping hand. He was hardworking. Dennis treated individuals with dignity. They liked having Dennis tend to their chairs. I had the pleasure of working with Dennis and found the humorous side of his character. He had such a contagious laugh. Dennis loved to travel and share his experiences. RIP Dennis and know you are missed. Condolences to your family. - Posted by: Margaret Gaune (Friend) on: Sep 09, 2025

  • Murray and I offer our heartfelt condolences to Denis’ family….Kristin, Jason and Nicole and to all who loved Denis. - Posted by: Elaine (Harrison) and Murray Wilson (First cousin to Elaine) on: Sep 06, 2025

  • Denis was the same age as my brother, Wayne, which means he was 7 years younger than I. I remember him as fun loving and a little mischievous but I always knew him to be a person who looked out for others. As adults we lived in different parts of the country so didn’t meet often, although we had some great chats about our common ancestors. My favourite memory of Denis is when he showed up at my Mom's house in McCreary….it was one of those times when I came from Ontario to spend a few weeks with my mom. We three had such a good visit that day. He stayed for supper before heading back to Winnipeg. It meant so much to Mom, his Auntie Charlotte, and to me!! Go in peace, dear Denis! - Posted by: Elaine (Harrison)Wilson (1st cousin (My mom, Charlotte, was his dads sister.) on: Sep 06, 2025
