MANFRED BALSKE

Our father, Opa and great-Opa Manfred Balske passed away peacefully on September 4, 2025, after a lengthy illness.

Manfred was born in Mucke, Germany in 1936. He immigrated to Canada and Winnipeg as a young man in 1956 to begin a new life. As a trained machinist, Manfred (Mel) secured a job with Bay Bronze Ltd where he thrived for 30 years. He put his heart and soul into the company overseeing the machine shop division and bringing many successful projects to fruition.

Mel met Elvira (Ellie) Daniels in 1957, and they were married in 1959. They had three children, Harold, Edward (Lynn) and Deborah (Keith). He and Ellie loved spending time with their seven grandchildren Colton, Brenden, Michaela, Carson, Meghan, Sarah and Eric and his seven great-grandchildren especially at their home on Clearwater Bay in Lake of the Woods.

Mel loved the outdoors especially hunting and fishing, but one of his real passions in life was renovating the homes he and Ellie had purchased over the years. He was always looking for ways to improve our surroundings and making our lives better, and Manfred experienced real joy and pride in what he and Ellie had accomplished.

Opa taught us to never fear learning something new and that hard work and creativity will lead to success.

We are so grateful to the staff at Westpark Manor 1 East and 1 South for the excellent care they provided to Manfred the past three years.

As per Opa’s request, a private service will be held.

In lieu of flowers, we encourage you to please make a donation to the Manitoba Heart and Stroke Foundation in memory of Manfred.
