Florence May White (nee Miller) born August 16, 1931, passed away peacefully at Oakview Extended Care on August 27, 2025, at the age of 94.
She will be missed by her children, Jo-Anne Yuzark, Valerie Nicoll (Christopher), Donald White (Teresa) and her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Keltie May, William, Brayden, Heather, Nickolas, Sydney, Bobbi and Abigail.
May was born in Pine Falls, Manitoba to Margaret and Jack Miller. Predeceased by parents, Margaret and Jack Miller; husband, Sidney White; sister, Brenda Grabys and brother in-law, Joe Grabys.
May spent her early years in the small town of Pine Falls in northern Manitoba before moving to Winnipeg to complete her Normal School and begin her teaching career. May was a dedicated teacher for over 40 years and returned to University to complete her studies and her special education qualifications.
May met her husband, Sidney White in the early 1950s and they married in 1955. After travelling for Sid’s hockey career to British Columbia and to Cincinnati, May and Sid settled in the beautiful neighbourhood of Woodhaven, where they raised their family and lived for over 60 years. Summers were spent with her children and grandchildren on Lake Manitoba at the cabin papa built. May and Sid; Bunny and Joe and family friend Lawson were the ultimate Winnipeg Jets and Winnipeg Blue Bombers fans. Many Bomber games were attended and if not there in person all games were regularly viewed and much cheering could be heard. May retired from teaching in 1990 and she and Sid spent many years being “snowbirds” and travelling to Mesa, Arizona. They had wonderful winters at Trail Riders Holiday Park with friends and family. May was also very involved with the Scottish community in Winnipeg and she cherished the many friendships with the “highland gang”. May was dedicated to family, friends and community. She was a loving wife, mother, sister, aunt and friend and will be greatly missed.
Many thanks to the staff at Sturgeon One Home Care and Oakview Extended Care for their wonderful care for Mom.
A celebration of May’s life will be held on Monday, September 29, 2025, from 12:30 p.m.to 3:00 p.m. at The Pavilion at Assiniboine Park, 55 Pavilion Crescent, Winnipeg, MB.
