GERALD RONALD CORRIGAL

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Gerald Ronald Corrigal, 69, who left us peacefully on September 20, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.

He was the cherished father of James Keith Corrigal (Partner Leanne Waite), and Samantha Ann Bowles (Partner, Brian Bowles). He was a delighted grandfather to newborn Sabrina Ann Waite-Corrigal.

He will be lovingly remembered by his "bonus daughter" Megan Wiebe, "bonus granddaughter" Addisen Wiebe, countless friends, held in special esteem by his cousin, Randy McElhoes and his former wife and great friend Ann Buchanan the mother of both of his children.

Gerry was a true leader and very passionate about the insurance industry.

Gerry owned and operated McElhoes and Duffy with his brother Steve Corrigal.

He was the president of the Insurance Brokers Association of Manitoba, and also was the Founder of The Young Brokers Committee.

Gerry was his happiest when he was around family and friends. His outgoing and sociable nature was a gift to all who knew him. He thrived in a crowd and had a remarkable ability to make everyone feel welcome and valued.

You will forever live in the hearts of your family.

"At the end of the day" as dad used to always say, please take time to remember him as we do with love.

Condolences & Memories (19 entries)

  • So sad to hear of the untimely passing of a dear friend Gerry. Gerry was a great President of the Insurance Brokers Association of Manitoba. It was a pleasure to work with him and his Board. He was the driving force behind the Young Broker Network group formation in Manitoba. I wanted to include a great picture of Gerry hard at work for IBAM, but (no link!) My sincere sympathy to Ann, James and Samantha and their families. Margaret Scurfield, former CEO IBAM. - Posted by: Margaret Scurfield (Insurance Industry) on: Oct 03, 2025

  • We are very sad on the loss of our dear friend Gerry. Our memories go back a long time and lots of fun over the years. Travelling the West Coast, helping build his cabin in the Lake of the Woods , curling with Gerry and Mr. Corrigal, living in the same building almost like roommates but each in our own apartment. I will always cherish our friendship . Once the wives and kids came then we all got to create family memories together. Ann, James, Samantha and families. Our heart goes out to all of you in the loss of this dear man. Rest in peace Gerry. We will miss you. • So sorry to hear about Gerry's passing. Gerry was one of my closest friends for over 35 years. Such a great guy who was so much fun to be around. I can't help but smile when I think of all the memories at the lake, playing golf, playing crib, watching football or just having a beer together where he would frequently talk proudly of his kids and becoming a Granddad. I'll miss him. Hugs and condolences to the whole family. - Posted by: Andy Hall (Friend (AKA Uncle Bun to James and Sam)) on: Sep 29, 2025

  • A true Prince of a man, I respected and admired Gerry immensely for his staunch support and promotion of the Insurance Brokers Association, but especially for his work and interpersonal ethics. I never once heard him speak disparaging word to or about anyone. “A True Gentleman.” My heartfelt condolences to his Family and Friends. - Posted by: Laurence (Laurie) Russin (Fellow Insurance Broker past IBAM Board Member) on: Sep 28, 2025

  • So sorry to hear of Gerry's passing, I have so many good memories from our school days in St. Vital. I left Winnipeg 50 + years ago, but did see him a few times when out visiting friends. RIP my friend. Brian - Posted by: Brian Malowanchuk (Glenwood school friend) on: Sep 28, 2025

  • Gerry you will be missed deeply by your family and all those who knew you! So many wonderful memories that we shared as members of the IBAM board. Our entertainment that we all participated in the Bipper Airlines, board meetings, conventions, making me golf at Clear Lake ( you told me only 9 holes) but it was 18 and I could hardly walk after that. So many other memories that we shared. So glad we met up in June and had a nice visit. Rest in Peace my friend! - Posted by: Melody Terin (Friend) on: Sep 28, 2025

  • Will always remember the early AM racquet ball games amd our insurance conversations. He was one of the good guys! Rest in Peace! - Posted by: George Hucul (Friend) on: Sep 28, 2025

  • Such a nice fellow! I am shocked that Gerry has left us so soon. As a business acquaintance and friend I never saw Gerry without a smile on his face. A very genuine and likeable person. May you rest in peace Gerry and hope you find your Ptarmagan Bay up in heaven. How he loved Lake of the Woods. - Posted by: Bob Bertrand (Business Acquaintance) on: Sep 27, 2025

  • My dear old friend Gerry. Such a fun and caring guy! Our friendship goes way back to high school: many a trip to the St. VItal Hotel for music ( and beer), visits to Gerry’s cottage at Lake of the Woods, Bomber and Jets games, political discussions (we weren’t on the same team), and parties with friends from Glenlawn Collegiate! What a hoot we had! I left for a job in Vancouver in the early 90’s but Gerry and I kept in touch: visits back and forth between Winnipeg and Vancouver, still more Bomber and Jets games, discussions about Gerry’s trips overseas (once he retired), and the joy he had visiting his kids in Halifax. So much more to say, but I’ll finish with a heartfelt salute to one of my oldest and dearest friends. Peter Burch - Posted by: Peter Burch (Old friend (figuratively and literally)) on: Sep 27, 2025

  • Sad to hear. CONDOLENCES to the family. Gerry was a competitor in the Insurance business and a good friend. - Posted by: Gerry Ducharme (Friend & Business) on: Sep 27, 2025

  • I am very sad to hear of Gerry’s passing. Gerry and his family where very important in my family as our insurance brokers, customers of ours and most of all friends. I remember when dad Ron would come to my dads service station for service or even out of his way just for gas in that beautiful 1967 chev caprice. When Gerry and Steve were more into the business I too was more involved in our family business and you could say that the Corrigal family and Renn families became much more than business associates. Gerry and I enjoyed many rounds of golf and lunches together. He stood very tall in all the lives he touched. Rest well my friend.
