Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemorySUSAN KACKENHOFF
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Susan Kackenhoff, surrounded by family on September 19, 2025, at the age of 89.
She is survived by her loving husband of 66 years, Ernie; her son Barry (Lisa); daughter Janice (Dave); and grandchildren Aimee, Ashley, and Matthew.
Born in Dauphin, MB, Susan came to Winnipeg at 18 to work in the city at a legal firm. She met Ernie through a friend of a friend, and they soon married. Susan is the co-founder of Kackenhoff Nurseries Ltd. Susan and Ernie worked together every day for decades, and raised two children, who also grew up and joined the company, as well as Lisa. It has always been very much a family affair.
We can find comfort in knowing that Mom’s legacy lives through the lessons she taught us through the love of family and plants and all these memories we will always cherish.
As per her wishes, cremation has taken place.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Lung Association.

My sincere condolences to Ernie and family on the loss of your wife, mother and grandmother. Words just simply cannot express how this news has impacted me. Aunty Susan as I grew up calling her was a very good friend of my mom. We lived in the same house for some time and aunty Susan would often babysit me so my mom could work an evening shift. Naturally, Ernie became an uncle too. One of my fondest memories of aunty Susan is her love of laughter. It was most definitely was contagious for everyone in the room. I know this is a hard road to travel for all of you but as a family, together you will find your way in the darkness of her absence. - Posted by: Wayne Pierce (Family acquaintance) on: Sep 27, 2025

Dear Ernie and family, I want to express my deepest condolences to you during this difficult time. I fondly remember how you and Susan were great friends with my parents, Herb and Jean Zilkie, and the many visits you all shared. Ernie and Susan were instrumental in my life, as they gave me my first job. At the age of 16, I spent my days pulling weeds in the rows of plants. I remember Susan as a lovely and kind person, and I cherish the memories of you both. With my deepest respect and sympathies, Joan Connell (née Zilkie) - Posted by: Joan Connell (Nee Zilkie) (Friend) on: Sep 27, 2025
