And missed by The Assiniboia Downs community and friends. Predeceased by father Glen.
Born May 4, 1958, in St. Boniface and raised on the family ranch in East St. Paul. Rick followed in his dad’s footsteps for his love of horses. Starting as a young boy he worked with his dad, Glen with breaking, galloping, assisting training, and owning thoroughbred racehorses. He also enjoyed being a Jockey’s agent. Rick travelled to many racetracks in the US and Canada during his career with horses. His work with horses never really ended. He worked for Assiniboia Downs from 2017 to present as Track Superintendent and showed unwavering dedication in his work there, making many sacrifices throughout the years to ensure the racetrack was well maintained & safe during racing season.
Rick was known for his devotion to his family, especially to his mother Louise whom he resided with. He cherished time spent with his daughter Alayna, along with his grandchildren.
A celebration of life will be held in spring of 2026 at Assiniboia downs.
The family wishes to thank Cancer & Palliative Care for their compassion and care.

At the beginning we we worked together as brother and sister and had lots of fun especially with our circus we put on every year. At the end we were there for each other. This bond will live forever. Praise God for taking care of you now. 2 Timothy 4:7 - "I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith." - Posted by: Treasure & Hal Sear (Sister/Brother in law) on: Nov 15, 2025
