Eileen Kennedy
It is with great sadness that the family of Eileen F. Kennedy announces her passing at the age of 101 years and 6 months in Minnedosa, MB on October 11, 2025.
Eileen was born to parents Arthur and Mabel Farnworth. She was raised and educated in Lancashire, England along with her brother Godfrey and sisters Nancy and Grace.
When the Second World War broke out she proudly enlisted in the Women's Auxiliary Air Force and served as a Radar Operator. It was while serving that she met a young Captain in the Royal Engineers, Arthur Kennedy. They were married on April 15, 1944 and enjoyed 63 years of marriage before Arthur's passing on October 14, 2007. She was discharged from the services with the rank of T/CPL. After the war, the couple lived in England, Northern Rhodesia and Gold Coast (now Ghana), for Arthur's work and in 1957 made the move to Canada with their three sons in tow. The first stop was Regina then Yorkton, SK. Then, on to Winnipeg, MB and finally to Calgary, AB where they eventually retired as the end of Arthur's Civil Engineering career. While in Winnipeg, Eileen was very involved with the Manitoba Cricket Association and theater production.
In her younger years, she was an avid tennis player. While in Calgary, she took up the game of golf and was a member of Confederation Golf Club for over 40 years. She golfed well into her nineties and only conceded to using a golf cart to travel around the course in the last few years of golfing! She achieved a "hole in one" on October 19, 1988, a very proud moment for her. Eileen also enjoyed playing bridge, gardening, bird watching, getting together with family and friends and traveling with Arthur to Mexico and many parts of Canada and the USA, enjoying a good beer, G and T, and a Scotch along the way!
She lived on her own in Calgary after Arthur's passing with the kind help and friendship of her neighbours Kevin and Shelly Dunford which the family greatly appreciates. She was predeceased by her parents; her youngest son Malcom and her husband Arthur; brother and sisters and many friends. She is survived by her sons Anthony (Hansa) of Ban Pong, Thailand and Ian (Lynda) of Clanwilliam, MB. Grandsons Arthur (Allyse) and Robert (Cecily). Great-grandchildren Aubree and Aiden, Calla and Hunter Kennedy all of Selkirk, MB.
The family wish to thank Claudia and her wonderful staff of Victoria Landing of Brandon, MB where Eileen has resided since February of 2022 to be closer to family. Also the Brandon and Minnedosa hospitals for their kindness and caring to Eileen in her final days. To Nathan White and staff of White's Funeral Home Minnedosa for their kindness and compassion during this difficult time.
As per Eileen's wishes, cremation has taken place and her remains will be interred with Arthur in the summer of 2026 in Calgary, AB.
In Eileen's own words
"I've had a good, long life"!
