Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryLENA GRACE HOUSTON
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved, Mother, Sister, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother, Auntie, Sister-in-law, and Friend. Mom passed peacefully and comfortably into the Spirit world to join the loving arms of her family. It was no doubt an amazing reunion.
In her last years, Mom lived at the George M Guimond Care Center on Sagkeeng First Nation. Our heartfelt thanks go to the caregivers and staff, who cared for her and helped her live her remaining years comfortably and peacefully.
Our mom worked hard throughout her entire life. She was a Licensed Practical Nurse who was employed at the Children’s Hospital in Winnipeg for many years. She was an avid reader and an accomplished knitter and crocheter, and shared her talent by making blankets, sweaters, and baby items for family members and friends over the years. She liked game shows and watching mysteries. Mom had a witty sense of humor and loved to chat with the staff who took care of her.
In her loving memory, she leaves behind her daughters, Karen (Langford), Jay-Lynne, Deidre (Leonard), and Penny (Curtis), along with her grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, and her sister, Sylvia Guimond.
Lena was predeceased by her husband, Alexander Houston, her parents, Jean Phillip and Mary Agnes Courchene, her siblings, John A., Marcel, Freda, Michael, and Jeanette, and her children, Elaine, Ron (Sonny), and Ardith (Chicky).
Wake services will be at the St. Alexander Roman Catholic Church Hall, Tuesday, November 18, 2025, starting at 2:00 p.m., Sagkeeng First Nation. Funeral services will follow on Wednesday, November 19, at 2:00 p.m. at St. Alexander Roman Catholic Church, Sagkeeng First Nation. Pallbearers are granddaughters, Casey Courchene, Quincy Courchene, Shelly Guimond, Andrea Guimond, Candace Guimond, and Tamera Wheeler. Honorary Pallbearers: Richard Houston, Talia Chavez-Lewis, Shelby Chavez-O’Brien, and Skyla Guimond.
