It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother and friend on Saturday, January 24, 2026 at St. Boniface Hospital surrounded with her family by her side.
Maria was born in Vizzini, Sicily on September 6, 1931. She immigrated to Canada in 1959 to meet up with her husband Santo after getting married the previous year in Vizzini, Sicily. She worked as a seamstress in Canada until the day she retired, but her main focus was raising her children and making her family her top priority. She will be remembered for her love for her family, her sense of humour, her kindness towards people and for the joy and laughter she brought to so many.
Maria is survived by her sons, Tony (Shannon) and Salvatore (Catherine); granddaughter, Selina (Derek), brothers and sisters-in-law, as well as nieces and nephews in Canada, Italy and the United States.
The family would like to thank the staff at Poseidon Long Term Care Home for the care and compassion given to mom.
Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated on Wednesday, February 4th at 11:00 a.m. in the Holy Rosary Roman Catholic Church, 510 River Avenue with Reverend Father Sam Argenziano officiating. Expression of condolences may be made to the family starting at 10:00 a.m. Entombment at Queen of Heaven Mausoleum (3990 Portage Avenue). Reception to follow the mass at Holy Rosary Roman Catholic Church. A link to the livestream of the funeral can be found on Cropo’s website.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of your choice or Holy Rosary Church.
