On January 12, 2026, Sylvia Angela Marshall (nee Walter), age 92, passed away peacefully at Victoria General Hospital with her family by her side. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Bob, in 2022 and is survived by her three children, sons Robert and Gary and daughter Wendy, her half-brother Jeremy, two nephews, Robin and Duncan, and many relations throughout England, Australia and South Africa.
Sylvia was born in London, England on January 23, 1933. She was part of the amazing British civilian population who fought and survived World War II remaining strong, confident and generous throughout her life. After re-connecting with her childhood friend, Bob, in the early 1950s, they married at Pinner Parish Church in September 1955. They moved to Canada in 1957 and lived in Toronto, North Bay and Thunder Bay before settling in Winnipeg where they remained for over 60 years.
Sylvia worked as a stenographer and secretary for the Government of Manitoba and the MACLD Learning Center before retiring in the early 1990s. Sylvia and Bob contributed to many charitable causes and were founding members of the Manitoba Association for Children with Learning Disabilities (MACLD).
Sylvia and Bob enjoyed many winters at their condominium in Naples, Florida playing tennis and spending time with their many friends. Summers were spent in Winnipeg playing tennis at the Wildwood Club. They also traveled extensively throughout South America, Europe and the Caribbean.
Our many memories will keep Sylvia in our hearts and minds forever. We love you mum.
A Celebration of Life and a reception will be held on Saturday, February 7, 2026, at St. Bartholomew’s Anglican Church, 881 Autumnwood Drive, Winnipeg at 11:00 a.m.
