It is with deepest sadness that I announce the passing of my beloved younger sister, Darcia, after a short illness. I was blessed to share the last moments of her life at our home in Winnipeg.
Darcia was predeceased by her dear parents, Anna and Michael Siryj and is survived by her sister Vicky Armanios.
Darcia grew up in the northern mining town of Flin Flon, Manitoba and, in her young years, enjoyed a lifestyle of figure skating at the arena, walking to Phantom Lake to swim on hot summer days, and playing the piano beautifully, under the expert direction of Wm. Sonnichsen.
Darcia was a good student who started school in grade two, after her mother taught her the fundamentals of grade one at home. She was then chosen for the accelerated group of students who studied grades three and four in one year. She would also remember, with a smile, the good natured teasing of classmates when she had her dad for Chemistry and her mother for French at Hapnot Collegiate.
All her life, Darcia treasured memories of life in Flin Flon and loved hearing about friends she knew there in her youth.
At the age of 16, Darcia began her studies at the University of Manitoba and completed her B.A. Honours in English and her M.A. in Natural Resource Management. During her long career as a Financial Advisor in Calgary, she served her clients with great dedication and enjoyment.
Her favourite pastime during the Calgary years was playing Ladies' Polo and owning a chestnut coloured horse named "Tico." When she retired, she moved to Winnipeg to live with her sister.
Always loving, thoughtful and smiling, Darcia was the perfect sister and will be missed forever.
The visitation for Darcia will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 16, 2026 at Glen Eden Funeral Home, 4477 Main Street, followed at 2:00 p.m. by the bilingual (Ukrainian/English) Funeral Service. Those attending are invited to stay for a light lunch following the service.
Flowers are gratefully declined. If you wish, please make a charitable contribution in Darcia’s name to Holy Trinity Ukrainian Orthodox Cathedral, 1175 Main Street, Winnipeg, MB R2W 3S4, or to a charity of your choice.
