Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryGEORGE (BARRY) HOLLINS
It is with profound sadness and deep gratitude for a life well lived, that we announce the peaceful passing of George (Barry) Hollins, after a lengthy illness, on April 1, 2026, at the age of 90.
Barry was pre-deceased by his parents, George and Alice Hollins, brothers David and Gerry as well as his sister Janice Hollins.
He is survived by his loving wife, Loretta (Laurie), daughter Gayle Brennan (Shannon), sons Glenn (Karen), Jeff (Sharon) and Kevin (Bonnie). Left also to cherish his memory are nine grandchildren: Jared Friesen, Kyle Laroque (Brittany), Trevor Hollins (Raquel Payne), Emily Richardson (Thomas), Lauren Hollins (Michael Laverge), Corbin Hollins, Brett Hollins, Chad Hollins and Tanner Hollins. He will also be fondly remembered by six great grandchildren; Madden, Bohdi, Delilah, Asher, Ally and Violet. He is also survived by his brother Wayne, sisters Sandra Miller and Judy Panasuk (Bob), sister-in-law Dorothy Hollins, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Barry was a devoted husband and a kind, soft-hearted, selfless man, always thinking of others first; a quality he passed down to all of us. He deeply loved his family and was so very proud of all his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. As a young man, Barry enjoyed many sports including hockey, baseball, fishing and golf. Later on, he became an avid curler and continued with his love of golf until only very recently. Barry began his career in 1953, at CIL, in Winnipeg. Although there were many name changes throughout the years, he worked for the same company for 36 years until the time of his retirement at the age of 54.
In 1957, he married the love of his life, Laurie, and together they enjoyed 68 adventurous years of marriage until the time of his passing. They spent more than 20 years raising their family in the Westwood neighborhood, where many life-long friends were made. During those years, Barry was always involved in the community, committing many volunteer hours to coaching or otherwise being involved in community hockey. Many special memories were made during the 1970's during summers spent at Toniata on Falcon Lake. In 1986, Barry and Laurie moved to Vancouver where they lived for roughly five years before retiring and moving home to Winnipeg to be closer to family. Soon after their return, they fulfilled a life-long dream by acquiring a lake-front cottage on Lac du Bonnet where six months of every year were spent hosting friends and countless memorable family gatherings.
Barry and Laurie enjoyed a lengthy and fruitful retirement, snow-birding in various southern locations including Florida and Texas but ultimately spent the majority of their retirement winters in Phoenix. They recently marked their 20th year as residents of Glendale Court, in Winnipeg, where they have many special friends and neighbors. Throughout his retirement, he continued to enjoy curling, golfing year-round, and many sunny days out on the lake fishing with Laurie. While his absence leaves a profound void, we take comfort in the love, memories and legacy he left behind.
In accordance with Barry's wishes, cremation has taken place and a private celebration of life will be held at a later date.
Special thanks to the staff of the palliative care unit at St. Boniface hospital for their excellent care during his short stay.
In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Siloam Mission.
