It is with great sadness and terrible shock that we announce the sudden passing of Vincent Morrissette. His life was cut short unexpectedly, and far too soon, on the night of March 12th. Tragically, he was assaulted by a total stranger, when leaving his workplace, after an ordinary evening shift. Vincent was a peaceful, gentle man, and this sudden blow has badly shaken his grieving family and all who loved him.
Vincent was born in New York City, to Canadian parents, who were living in the U.S. at the time. He came to Winnipeg as a young boy and grew up here, graduating from Churchill High School and earning a BA in History from the University of Winnipeg. He was good-natured, kind, and treated others with respect. He was honest and upstanding, with a strong work ethic. He often worked as a cleaner and window washer for various locations in town. Indeed, as the caretaker of a downtown apartment block for over 25 years, he had many responsibilities and met many challenges.
As for his personal life, Vincent was interested in history, family history, spirituality, theology, and nature. During summer, he loved spending time outdoors, camping, golfing, and swimming. Some of his favourite places were Lake Louise, Patricia Beach, the Whiteshell, and the seasonal spot in eastern Manitoba, where he kept a trailer for a while. When not working or enjoying the outdoors, he spent quiet evenings at home. His favourite pastime was interacting with other players, while they drove semis on virtual highways, in an online trucker simulation. Watching TV, listening to music, reading, and viewing YouTube videos were other activities he liked, in his spare time.
Vincent was a caring, thoughtful family member, with a warm heart, a beautiful smile, and a strong bond with his siblings. He is survived and mourned by his brother, David Morrissette, his sister, Melody Morrissette, and stepmoms, Catherine Hunter and Anne Dunlop. He was also much loved by his late step-grandma, Doreen Hunter, and will be mourned by all the Hunters in his family: Kevin (Nadine), Cheyenne, Autumn (Dustin) and Shane; Rocky (Colleen), Justin and Trevor.
Vincent was predeceased by his loving parents, mother Wilhelmina (Winnie) Bessai and father George Morrissette. Rest in Peace, Vince. You will be greatly missed.
A service in memory of Vincent will be held on Saturday, April 18, at 1:00 p.m. at Coutu Funeral Home, 680 Archibald street in St. Boniface.
