Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryLAWRENCE ALFRED NICKEL
It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved brother and uncle, on Sunday, April 5, 2026, at Fairview Personal Care Home in Brandon, Manitoba at the age of 94.
Lawrence was born on December 16, 1931, in Grahamdale, Manitoba and lived on the family homestead farming and raising cattle most of his life. For a short while he worked away testing grain samples for the Grain Exchange then worked for five years for CN Rail. Eventually he returned home where he and his sister Edna devoted themselves to the family farm. A second home for his nieces and nephews and a place where we all gathered for the holidays.
Lawrence had an awesome sense of humour and could always be found joking and playfully arguing with you, regardless if he was right or wrong. He always found a way to make you laugh. Lawrence always enjoyed a good game of cards and loved playing or calling Bingo. In his younger days he was an avid baseball player and enjoyed curling as well. A lifelong fan of all sports – Go Jays, Jets and Bombers!
After retiring, he moved to Ashern and then eventually joined Cory and Darla and their family in Brandon.
Lawrence is survived by his brother Bill (Rose), sister-in-law Ruth, nieces and nephews Dennis (Jan), Al (Diane), Carol (Joe), Ken (Coreen), Brian (Deborah), Karen, Kim, Cheryl (Mike), Greg, Lori (Ralph), Shannon (Carey), Cory (Darla), Brent (Candy), and numerous great-nieces and nephews, and great-great-nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Reinhold and Olga, siblings Norman, Edna, Alma (Bill), Clarence (Mary), Herbie and nephew Darren.
The family would like to thank the Brandon Fairview Personal Care Home staff for their care and support provided to Lawrence.
Funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 14, 2026, at the Ashern Legion Hall with Dawn Tober officiating. Interment will follow in the St. John's Lutheran Cemetery. Viewing for the family will be held one hour prior to the service. Pallbearers are Greg Nickel, Cory Nickel, Caitlan Nickel, Jesse Nickel, Joe Baron and Matthew Baron. Honorary Pallbearers are Hannah Nickel, Ava Nickel and Brianna Baron.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Fairview Personal Care Home, 1351 – 13th Street, Brandon, MB, R7A 4S6.
