On Thursday, April 9, 2026, after turning 104 nine days ago, Sarah entered into eternal rest.
Sarah was predeceased by her sisters, Emily Trump and Magreta Hawthorne; brothers, John and Alec; nieces, Sally and Janet; and nephews-in-law, George and Richard.
She is survived by her sister Mary of Uckfield, England; and three generations of nieces and nephews in Canada, England, Northern Ireland, and New Zealand.
Sarah was born in Lisnaward, Dromore, County Down, Northern Ireland to John and Margaret McDowell. The family moved to Belfast during the Great Depression. She first came to Canada to see her sister Emily, returned to Belfast for a year, and then immigrated permanently to Winnipeg the following year. She retired from the costume jewellery department of Eaton’s in 1987 after many years of service.
The funeral service will be held at Glen Lawn Funeral Home, 455 Lagimodiere Boulevard, with Reverend Deacon Helen Hunter officiating. Viewing will take place 30 minutes prior to the service. Interment to follow at Glen Lawn Cemetery.
The family would like to extend their thanks and gratitude to Park Manor for their care and compassion towards both Sally and the family for the 10 years that our beloved aunt resided there. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Park Manor Building Fund would be appreciated.
