It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Chris Butchart on April 11, 2026 at the age of 52. He passed away peacefully at home with his wife Alison and son Tristan at his bedside.

Chris is survived by his loving wife Alison; his son Tristan; his labradoodle Charlie; and his unborn twin baby sons, Gabriel and Reagan.

Chris was born July 29, 1973 in Winnipeg. Chris was diagnosed with esophageal cancer in July 2023.

Chris was also survived by his parents, Renee and Bill; his sister Keri (Stuart); father-in-law John (Edel); brother-in-law Gary (Claire); and his nieces and nephew. Chris was predeceased by his mother-in-law, Anne.

Chris always had a passion for the lake and water skiing. He loved to fish, play golf and quad with Tristan. As a family, Chris, Alison and Tristan enjoyed playing tennis together. Chris also loved to snowmobile and cook.

Chris loved spending time with Alison and Tristan at their cabin on Lee River, Lac du Bonnet.

Alison and Tristan would like to thank the staff at CancerCare Manitoba and the palliative care team who took great care of Chris at home.

Cremation has taken place and a small family service will be held at a later date.

  • Remembering Chris. We had the blessing and good fortune of growing up less than a block away from our cousins. Chris and Keri were constants in my childhood. Every holiday and celebration were spent together as children. Family memories of wandering back-and-forth between Oakleaf and Minnetonka are some of my favourites. Under ducks on the swings at Oakleaf park, birthday parties in their basement, pig roasts in their backyard, and attempted sleepovers in the camper in their driveway. One of my best cousin memories was accidentally setting the basement on fire making Easter eggs. Chris had a quiet sense of humour and a sharp wit that kept me laughing at family events, especially family picnics to rainbow stage with the famous potato salad. We spent time as kids at the Irish club including breakfast with Santa and listening to relatives sing. We spent long evenings at Folklorama with our Grandma in the kitchen and our dads working behind the bar. Chris put up with endless Irish dancing concerts and dressing up together as youth ambassadors. Chris has a permanent place in my heart and remains a big part of my childhood memories. I will miss him very much. Rest peacefully. - Posted by: Marni Crymble (Cousin) on: Apr 18, 2026

  • My big brother. I wish I could have helped you fight this fight. However; this is one that had to be fought by you. Your courage and strength through this battle has been admirable and I cant imagine my life without you. When we were kids, I always looked up to you and would do anything to spend time with you. Our times spent at our family cabin on Lee River are some of the happiest moments of my life. Riding on the back of your dirt bike, fishing (and catching more fish than you) or playing games with Mom and Dad at the table after dinner. Regardless of what we were doing, just spending time with my big brother, my number one Protector, and best friend are memories I will cherish forever. I am forever proud of you and the good, humble, honest and kind man you were. I only wish we had more time. I’ll love you forever.
