SAVELIA KORZENIOWSKI

(NEE HARACH)

February 5, 1934 - April 25, 2026

Savelia (Sylvia), the youngest of 11 children, was born in Ethelbert, MB and grew up on a farm near Garland, MB. Sylvia found her musical talent at an early age and taught herself to play any available instrument; guitar, mandolin, fiddle, mouth harp. She was soon performing at all the local dances!

Sylvia moved to Winnipeg in her teenage years, where she worked at the Wpg Municipal Hospital. While providing Ukrainian/English translation for a patient from Grandview, MB, she met the patient’s son Alex. After a brief courtship, Sylvia and Alex married in Grandview, but with Sylvia being underage they had to go to Yorkton, SK to obtain their marriage certificate.

Sylvia and Alex lived and worked in a number of rural communities until they settled in Brandon, MB. She took pride in her public service with the Province of MB, especially issuing marriage licenses!

They later moved to Winnipeg for work, but taking an early retirement, Sylvia and Alex relocated to Peachland, BC in the Okanogan Valley, spending their winters in Mesa, Arizona. There, Sylvia discovered her aptitude for oil painting, which soon developed into her passion.

Ultimately, her husband’s poor health brought them back to Manitoba and after her husband’s passing in 2013, Sylvia moved into an assisted-living community. She enjoyed a vibrant lifestyle there, loved being around people and participated in all activities, especially painting and music.

Eventually her health deteriorated and Sylvia moved to the Polish Sokol Manor’s Supportive Housing in Brandon. Finally, she moved to Fairview Personal Care Home where she peacefully passed. The family especially thanks Danielle from Polish Sokol and the 5 floor staff for their care and assistance of Savelia.

From childhood, Sylvia was a hard worker who always faced challenges with optimism and a smile. She was always eager to help and was always surrounded by close friends and family.

Savelia will rest beside her husband, Alex and other family in Brandon Cemetery. She leaves two sons, Gerald (Bonnie) and Bob (Judy), three grandchildren (Alexis, Lucas, Isabel), Alexis’ stepsiblings, Karen, Kathryn and Bryan and two great-grandchildren (Hayden, Barron).

Cremation has taken place with a private family interment to follow. Flowers are respectfully declined; if so inclined, Sylvia would have appreciated donations to the Alzheimer’s Society of Manitoba.
