ANNIE (LOUISE) PROVEN

July 9, 1937 – April 30, 2026

A. Louise Proven passed away peacefully on April 30, 2026, at the age of 88.

She was predeceased by her parents, Annie and Allen Proven; her brothers-in-law, Curt Johnson and Rixon McKinnon; and three nephews.

Lou is lovingly remembered by her sisters, Betty Johnson and her twin sister, Jane McKinnon; her nieces, Joanne Johnson (Kim) and Brenda Caners (Darcy); and her nephew, Marc Johnson (Mitzi). She is also survived by numerous great-nieces, great-nephews, and extended family members.

Lou was born in Minnedosa, Manitoba, and grew up on the family farm north of Basswood, Manitoba. She completed her nursing training at St. Boniface Hospital and worked in numerous positions across Canada before settling in Winnipeg, where she enjoyed a successful career as an Enterostomal Therapist.

Lou retired early and returned to the family farm, where she embraced gardening, mouse hunting, and winemaking.

She had a passion for travel and explored much of the world, including Africa, Europe, South America, Asia, Oceania and Antarctica. Lou also loved skiing and enjoyed the slopes in both Canada and Europe.

The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to Fran Fahner for her lifelong friendship and support, especially during Aunt Lou’s final days.

A celebration of Lou’s life will be held in Basswood at a later date, when she will be laid to rest at Fairmount Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, take a loved one out for supper.
