ERNIE (OREST) KLEM

(OREST)

1942 – 2026

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our dear brother Ernie, on May 5, 2026, at the age of 84 years.

Ernie was the eldest child of Mike and Katie Klem (nee Ewonchuk).

Ernie was predeceased by his parents, his brothers Jim and Rob, and his niece Tara Grenier.

He leaves to mourn, his siblings, Audrey (Bert) Hamm, Mike, Pat (Cliff) Tottle, Joanne (Paul) Grenier, sister-in-law Deb; his many nieces, nephews and friends. He will be especially missed by his nephew and caregiver, Tom Neufeld and Tom’s daughters, Carli and Kalli.

Ernie was a talented fellow: photographer with his own dark room where he developed pictures he took, sketch artist, singer and guitarist, comedian. He was a dedicated vegetarian for many years – he even wrote a book on the subject before it was cool to do so, a runner, and a dog lover. No one will forget his two Siberian huskies on which he doted, Angel and Niki.

Ernie was a born salesperson; people were drawn to his honesty, his self-effacing sense of humour, and his contagious smile. His sales experience included selling camera equipment and accessories, audio equipment (he was “Weird Old Ernie” at Oakwood Audio, sorry mom), and finally advertising spots with the Winnipeg Free Press from where he retired in 2007.

We’ll miss you, Ernie.

Cremation has taken place.

A memorial will be held as he is laid to rest beside his parents and brother and will be announced at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Heart and Stroke which was an important charity to Ernie.
