MABLE HUBER

(nee SLYWKA)

1944 - 2026

We are saddened to share news of the passing of Mable Huber. Waiting for her on the other side are her mother, Emily; brother Peter; sister Shryl and husband, Jim. Still here to remember and miss her are her sister, Liz; son Ryan; daughter Erin (Steve), cherished Granddaughter, Mia. Mom was born in Quebec City in 1944, and the family relocated to Gimli Manitoba when she was very young. Mom grew up in Gimli, enjoying the beach and lake where she loved to sunbathe and waterski. A model in her younger years, Mom was always well-dressed and “put together”. She loved music and dancing. Mom married dad in 1967, and they started a life together in St James, later Charleswood. Mom was always very active in school activities, cheering on Ryan at hockey, and coming to every ballet recital for Erin. Mom was a devoted, patient and loving mother. She was kind, and funny. We hope that we can continue to live her best qualities.

Mom loved children and dedicated her career to early childhood education. She was a “tiny tots” teacher, day care professional, and later in life was a private nanny for many years. Mom and Dad were in a serious car accident in 2005, leaving mom badly injured, and taking the life of our Father, Jim Huber. Mom’s strength and resilience while recovering both physically and mentally from the accident, was inspirational. Mom loved to travel and was able to visit many wonderful places across the globe before she became ill. Mom was very active, enjoyed the outdoors, and playing golf. Mom was a talented photographer, a member of the Manitoba Camera Club for years. She was a gifted artist, and a member of the Medea Gallery Artists Co-operative.

We would like to thank the compassionate staff at Beacon Hill Lodge for providing care and support to Mom in her last years.

In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Alzheimer’s society, or any charity benefitting children or animals.

Please join us in the Celebration of Life for Mom on Wednesday June 10, 2026, 6:00 p.m. Mosaic Funeral Home, 1839 Inkster Blvd. Mom disliked wearing black at funerals – please consider wearing something vibrant – floral patterns were her favourite.

If I know what love is, it is because of you.
