Joyce Rich, daughter of the late Osborne B. Parkinson and Hazel McDonald Parkinson, passed away on June 8, 2026. Joyce was born in Winnipeg on July 20, 1930. She was educated in Roland, MB, United College, University of Manitoba, University of Toronto and Queen’s University.
She was predeceased by her husband Arthur A. Rich, Q.C. and sisters, Donna Woodall and Yvonne Levesque. She is survived by nephews, Christopher, Kevin (Susan Coristine) and Richard Woodall, nieces, Nicole Levesque and Michelle Levesque, great-nephew and great-niece, Matthew and Danielle, and cousin Eleanor Stardom.
Joyce taught school in Winnipeg, Ontario and London, England. In the 1950s she worked for two years with the Japanese consulate in Winnipeg then returned to the education field as a psychologist with the Child Guidance Clinic.
Over the years she was very involved as a volunteer with the Junior League of Winnipeg of which she was a past president. She sat on the Board of the Royal Manitoba Theatre Centre, served as President of the University of Winnipeg Alumni Association and for six years on the Board of Regents and the Senate at University of Winnipeg. Joyce and Arthur enjoyed travelling and spending summers at Victoria Beach and winters in Arizona.
In accordance with Joyce’s wishes, there will be no service. A private interment will be held at Fairview Cemetery in Roland at a later date. Donations in Joyce’s memory can be made to the University of Winnipeg Foundation in support of the Osborne and Hazel Parkinson Scholarship in Canadian History, 901-491 Portage Avenue, Winnipeg, R3B 2E3.
