Surrounded by love, Henry James Samuel Kuhl of Winnipeg, Manitoba, passed away on Friday, June 5, 2026.
Henry is most dearly remembered by his partner of 13 years, Karen Braun, and her son, Adnan Makamel; his children, Kristen (Kelly) Gray and James (Kendall) Kuhl; his grandchildren, Kyra and Lia Gray, Samuel, Edmund, Renée, and William Kuhl, and Ewan, Alara, and Livia Leonhart; and his brother, Donald (Ann) Kuhl. He was predeceased by his beloved daughter, Kathryn Kuhl; his parents, Henry and Susanne; his sisters, Cecile Toews and Irene Voth; and his brother, Kendal Kuhl.
Henry was born on May 2, 1952, in Winkler, Manitoba, to Henry and Susanne Kuhl. During his elementary school years, his family moved from the farm into the town of Winkler. Henry graduated from Garden Valley Collegiate in 1970, went on to attend Bible School in Kansas for a year, and later studied business at the University of Manitoba.
Henry was well known for his work as a real estate agent and his seat at the Winnipeg Grain Exchange. However, he was incredibly passionate about farming, which became his true life's work. In 1979, he started his farm, Northern Potato Company, in Bagot, Manitoba, and later expanded his operation by adding Northern Asparagus in 2000. He dedicated much of his adult life to nurturing these businesses and pouring his passion into the land and crops.
Henry's huge heart, generosity, and hospitality blessed many lives. To know Henry was to be loved and cherished by him. He loved to cook for his family and friends and will always be remembered for his delicious, comforting chicken noodle soup. He and Karen also shared a love for travel, taking numerous tropical vacations and making lifelong friends along the way. Above all, Henry was incredibly proud of his children and grandchildren. His desire to make each family member feel special and known is a lasting gift they will treasure forever.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 16, 2026, at Nassau Street Church (232 Nassau St. N., Winnipeg). A private family burial has already taken place at the Rossendale Cemetery in Rossendale, Manitoba.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Henry's memory to Siloam Mission (300 Princess St., Winnipeg, MB, R3B 1M3 or online at siloam.ca).
