SISTER GERARDA (SOPHIE) PURA
Sister Gerarda (Sophie) Pura died peacefully in her sleep in the early hours of July 27, 2026. As a Benedictine Sister of St. Benedict’s Monastery, she spent 78 years in religious life, living out the monastic motto "Ora et Labora" (pray and work) through diverse ministries to meet the needs of people around her in the monastery’s ministries.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, July 30, 2026 at 10:00 am in Holy Ghost Roman Catholic Church, 341 Selkirk Ave. A private interment will be in St. Benedicts Monastery Cemetery.
