Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryEDWIN R. (ED) POORE Ed passed away peacefully on October 3, 1999, having spent his last day with friends and family. Ed was born November 15, 1934 to Alvin and Katie Poore in Beaconsfield, Iowa. Ed spent his youth in Iowa farming, working many jobs and playing Varsity football, basketball and baseball. Ed graduated from high school in 1953 and studied for a year at Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa. After serving two years in the army, Ed obtained his Bachelor of Science and Masters Degree in Agricultural Economics at the University of Minnesota. Ed married Mary Margaret Hood of Mount Ayr, Iowa in 1957. Ed and Mary had two children, Elizabeth Janelle, born in Hudson, Wisconsin in 1960, and David Robert, born in Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1965. Elizabeth currently lives in Edmonton, near Mary. David currently lives in Vancouver. In 1963 Ed and his family moved to Winnipeg, where he took a position with the faculty of Agriculture at the University of Manitoba. Ed also worked with the Department of Agriculture, where he would have a long career until his retirement. While at the University of Manitoba and with the Department of Agriculture, Ed wrote many articles and published the textbook "Principles and Practices of Commercial Farming." Ed was the Director of the Planning Secretariat for the Department of Agriculture until 1978. He then moved to the Manitoba Agriculture Credit Corporation (MACC). Ed was the Director of Program Planning Development and Evaluation until his retirement at the end of 1991. He continued working as a consulting agrologist with his consulting business, Worth Consulting. In addition to a professional life, Ed took pleasure in many other activities. Ed coached youth baseball between 1970 and 1977, was the treasurer at Christ Memorial and Prince of Peace Lutheran churches and was a leader in the Cub Scouts. Perhaps Eds greatest pleasure in life was being with children. Family life brought great joy to him. Also, Ed spent a great deal of time with, and was a great friend to, all the children in his neighbourhood, particularly in his retirement. Eds love and compassion will be remembered fondly by his children, the children around him and all his friends and family. Anyone who wishes to join us in remembering and celebrating Eds life is welcome to join us at his memorial. The memorial will be held on Monday, October 11 at Neil Bardal Inc., 984 Portage Ave., entrance on Aubrey Street, at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, Ed would have preferred that donations be made to the Victorian Order of Nurses, who provided much appreciated care and compassion to him. Donations can be sent to V.O.N. Winnipeg, 301 - 831 Portage Ave., Winnipeg, MB, R3G 0N6. NEIL BARDAL INC. 949-2200
