BERTRAM JOSEPH THOMAS Suddenly on September 12, at his residence in Nanoose Bay, BC. Bert was born on August 11, 1950, one of five children, to Alice and Russell Thomas. At two years of age he was placed with his foster parents, David and Florence Brown. He loved his foster parents very much and appreciated the values that they taught him and the sacrifices they made for him. In his adult years he worked as a surveyor in northern Manitoba and attended R.R.C.C. He earned a graduate certificate as a court liaison in Vancouver, BC, and also was employed by the BC Forestry Dept. for a period of time. During his lifetime he travelled far and wide and made many friends who will remember him as a generous and caring person. He championed the causes to save old growth forests and prevention of nuclear pollution, along with many other concerns for nature and the well being of mankind. He particularly enjoyed fishing and hunting with his special friend Harry Worth. Bert is survived by his mother Alice Thomas; one brother and one sister; his foster family, Florence Brown - mother; Robert Brown (Sigrid) - brother, Mary Van Vliet (Ed) - sister; and three nephews and their families. Cremation has taken place and a graveside ceremony will be held on Friday, October 15 at 2:00 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens. A sharing circle was held in his memory by his friends in Nanoose Bay on Saturday, October 2. Those wishing to honour his memory may make a donation to the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, 301-352 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB R3B 2H8.
