Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJANINA POPKIEWICZ (JANKA) It is with great sorrow that we announce the sudden passing of Janina (Janka) Popkiewicz, beloved auntie (Ciocia), sister-in-law, and friend, on Sunday, November 14, 1999 at the age of 86. Janka was predeceased by her father Henryk in 1937, mother Franciszka in 1974 and brother Adam in 1983. She will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by her sister-in-law, Maria; nieces, Joanna and Sandy; nephews, Mark, Stefan, and Chris all of their families, relations in Poland, and her many friends. Janka was born in Lwow, Poland on May 5, 1913. She graduated and received her diploma from commercial college in Lwow. During the Second World War, she served in the Polish underground resistance. After the war, she lived in Krakow, Poland and then briefly in England before coming to Canada in 1958. She soon began working as a lab technician at U of M Medical Laboratories, where she remained until her retirement at the age of 67. Janka was always a very active member of her church, several Polish organizations, and the Winnipeg Polish community. She had a love of animals and enjoyed driving, cooking for friends and family and visits to the woods to pick mushrooms and berries. She will be remembered by her family and many friends for her warm smile and wonderful sense of humor. Prayers will be held on Thursday, November 18 at 8:00 p.m. at St. Andrew Bobola Church, 541 Marion Street. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, November 19 at 1:00 p.m. also at St. Andrew Bobola Church with Fr. Jan Spyrka officiating. Interment will follow in St. Marys Cemetery.
